Buffy Season Eight collected, vol 1

I think there might be one or two Buffy fans floating around here somewhere. And if you are like me, you may have been intrigued by the idea of a canonical Whedon-authored season eight comic book, but thought you’d wait for a trade paperback collection.

Well, here it is. It’s a somewhat thin volume, collecting the first five season eight comics. I find it reads pretty much like a single episode, with each book being an act (there’s really only four books in the story proper; the fifth is a background story which explicates a plot point mentioned in the first book and which features a different slayer.

There’s lots here to chew on. And nitpick. I’ve got lots of things, but maybe I’ll leave them til we get a sense of how many other Dopers are reading this.

Say that in Whedon-speak: “The first four books are story-arc, while the fifth is a stand-alone episode.”

I’ve been waiting for this TPB ever since the series was first announced, but I’ll wait until one of my local comic shops has a sale.

And don’t forget, Angel, season 6, starts at the end of the month.
