First, the chip only caused Spike excruciating pain when he tried to hurt someone. He didn’t look to be in any condition to notice.
BTW, he was talking about trying to remove his soul with the cuts?
And, I think that it may be time to end the series, or kill Buffy off permanently, or both. Could we picture a Buffy in her 30s, keeping up with the slayage?

buncha IMHOs and some questions…
I like the idea of Wood as a watcher, although I definitely saw him as the love interest too, and I have no problem reconciling the two together.
New and improved Dawn is definitely improved, the jury’s still out on the Scrappies though.
“To Serve Man…” was the best line.
OK, so how the heck did Dawn get her cell phone back from the janitor?
Also, something that raised my curiosity is the fact that after all of the last eps promises to show Dawn the world and no more lies, Buffy lied about Spike.
I’ve got no clue about the Istanbul chick or the parade-o-baddies.
OK, upon further reflection, what if Istanbul chick is a slayer in training, and we saw her latest workout? Did we actually see the monks kill her?

I bet Wood will die before Novemember sweeps.
The Jeffersons?
Ok, maybe I was the only one who saw this, but… When the woman in Istanbul was running, she had a door closed on her. It sure looked like the person behind the door had bleach blond hair.
Dunno about that, but I’m betting he doesn’t live to see the end of the season.
Pigs in Space, you were not the only person who saw that.
Pigs in space: I checked frame by frame. There is no mistaking those cheekbones.

Okay, number one, do you understand that your post was extremely general and vague and left MUCH room for misunderstanding your meaning?
Number two, Giles and Olivia, as someone else said. And the Willises on The Jeffersons, probably the most prominent interracial family in primetime, were a white man with a black woman.
And Joe Rossi on Lou Grant dated a black woman. And on Night Court, Mac (a black man) was married to an Asian woman.
Your assertion is untenable on its face. Cite?
I didn’t record and i didn’t watch that closely.
So mind letting me in on who it was.
It certainly was James Marsters. Considering the shot lasted about 12 frames, I’m not sure if it was Spike. It was so short that I don’t know if it served as a plot device or if JM was just handy as someone looking out through a door.
I totally missed it and had to go back and check when I read the posts about it here.
I’ll be without internet now for a couple o’ weeks---- bwaaa. I wanna know what’s happening.
Re interracial dating:
Ally McBeal and that hunky Broadway star who played a doctor on Ally. Don’t know his name but he went on to star in Law & Order, IIRC.
Also Lucy Liu bedded Fish on that show.
Yeah, but people keen on pointing out racial discrepencies usually don’t count asians for some reason, Pundit. You see what you want to see and hear what you want to hear, I always say…
Actually, Ling and Fish was the one example of an Asian person in an interracial relationship that came to mind. (I mentioned I could think of one. In the post. However, people don’t seem to be reading what I put into the posts, rather what they want to read… ) Also, in the first post was the word “television peeve.” Because I wanted to explicitly say it was a peeve about something on television, as opposed to something in real life. Apparently, that was missed as well.
In fact, yesterday, while watching ER, I remembered that Jing-Mei’s kid’s father was black. But then, I remembered that E.R. used “who’s the father?” as a mystery to turn in the next week because they had entirely failed to show that relationship on camera. The other characters’ relationships seem to make it on camera - that one didn’t. I think it would have been cool to see it. Pity.
Fiver, first, the thing in question is my perception of what I see on television. That is not something that is citable. Sorry. Second, as counter examples, you bring up a comedy that has been off the air for over 15 years (which I’ve never seen as I was too young to watch it when it was airing (so, of course it would not have come to mind) ), a drama that’s been off the air for 20 years (which I’ve never seen as I was too young to watch it when it was airing (so of course it would not have come to mind)), a comedy which hasn’t been shown on the air in 10 years (which I admit, I’d forgotten about), and (again, IIRC) a one shot guest appearance where I think the character had 5 lines. Looking at last year’s schedule grid, the pairing I mentioned had happened on “Ally McBeal,” " Once & Again" (not once, but twice, there were 6 dating single people on that show - not once did one of them meet a nice hispanic or asian person) “West Wing” “Will & Grace” “ER” & “Any Day Now” and those are just the ones I happened to have seen and remembered. All of the relationships were multiple episode arcs. That are recent shows. On the air within the past 6 months.
I’d love to see more interracial relationships on television. I’d kind of like to see the Jing-Mei/Pratt thing go somewhere (except he’s such a jerk). I’d like to see Dawn and the kid in the scrappy gang, or Anya and a Djinn, or Willow and the principal’s younger sister. But what I saw did make me roll my eyes and get annoyed at Joss.
OK, somebody please start an “Interracial Dating on TV series” thread.
Now, being the spoiler whore that I am, I went over to buffyguide and looked for summaries of future episodes, and
apparently, Spike will be helping Buffy fight next week’s Monster of the Week. Judging by the two seconds we saw of him in the “Next Week on Buffy” teaser, he’s still going to be quite insane, although it appears he will have fixed his hair. Which actually is kind of a shame, I kind of like the way his hair framed his face in this weeks ep.
I have a hunch that Buffy & Company won’t fully realize what has happened to Spike, soul-wise, until Willow returns to Sunnydale and makes the diagnosis. And it’s too bad that UPN and WB have to have this no crossover thing going, because (can’t believe I’m saying this) it would be really great if Angel could come in and help Spike work through his post-reensoulment angst.
robertliguori, I’m with you. It’s pretty well established in the Slayer mythos backstory that Slayers generally die young. Also, watching the Season Six episodes, I was actually starting to dislike Buffy. I don’t know it it’s the writers’ fault, or SMG’s heart just isn’t in it anymore, but aside from her abuse of Spike (it was heartbreaking watching her pound him to a bloody pulp in “Dead Things”), she has become weak as a character. I think the supporting characters have become strong enough that they could carry a spinoff show, centered around Dawn and the Scrappies, with Spike, Willow, Xander and, occasionally, Giles around to provide “grownup help” I actually think that ME is already setting up for it- from what I’ve read elsewhere, SMG and Emma Caulfield are the only major cast members who haven’t renewed their contracts. I say, kill Buffy off permanently before the show jumps the shark, maybe even a couple of episodes before the season finale so the rest of the cast can get established as a Buffy-less fighting force, and get another show rolling.
Just popping in to note that while I always appreciate being given the benefit of the doubt, mine was not the quote that inspired the interracial dating brou-ha-ha. I couldn’t care less if fictional characters of any race date each other.
Anyone else wonder if the demon who gave Spike his soul back is the bad guy?
