Clicking the word “Main” in the header that shows what forum you are in (“Straight Dope Message Board > Main > About This Message Board”>) still sports a coding that links it to “http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/forumdisplay.php?f=15” instead of the new “Straight Dope Message Board - Your direct line to thousands of the smartest, hippest people on the planet, plus a few total dipsticks.” address.
How is that a bug?
So don’t click on Main.
“Main” is the group on subforums named “main”. So clicking on it brings you to just that group, without “Side conversations”.
It’s not a bug, it’s a feature. It’s good because I don’t give a crap about Side Conversations, anyway.
The first address is no longer valid; I thought someone would want to know to correct the coding.
Clicking Main or Straight Dope Message Board is one of the ways that I personally like to navigate the site, so I noticed it when clicking Main was taking me to the former address for the main SDMB page (since it has the “scheduled maintenance” banner) and not the current address.
Click on it, then hold shift and click reload. I think the board was down earlier, and I think you browser is still showing the error page.
That’s what I mean. Click on Straight Dope Message Board instread of Main.
There’s nothing old or new about the forum links you quote. “Main” is a subforum of the “Straight Dope Message Board” list, so it has a specific forum identity, #15. Just like “About This Message Board” is forum #2. “Main” is the forum list that does not include “Side Conversations”.
The “scheduled maintenance” banner has nothing to do with the link to Main. You need to refresh your cache.
This is exactly right. And providing an actual description of the behavior you were seeing in your OP would have perhaps been helpful.
I thought this was going to be another “identify the insect” thread …
