Build your own supergroup!

I’ve thought about this few times, baseball fans build fantasy league baseball teams based on who they feel the best players are from any team, so how about you music fans? Tell us who you’d have singing and playing the instruments for your “ultimate supergroup”

Myself, I’ve always thought Def Leppard’s Rick Allen is the best drummer alive, the fact that he has one arm even more so, so he’s right away on the skins. Whitecross’ Rex Carroll, likewise, is the best guitarist ever to pick up a guitar imho. (Wisely, every Whitecross album that has him on guitars always has a Rex Carroll instrumental guitar solo track). Had to think a while about the singer, but Ken Tamplin (from various bands, although I like his solo work best) is not only a great singer but he swings a mean axe too (he’s my second choice for guitarist), so that works out. (Plus, he’s Sammy Hagar’s cousin! True!) Still don’t know about bassist, but I never really pay much attention to the bass, so …

(Yes, I like metal, and yes, I’m really partial to 80s metal, especially hair metal.)

Anyways, that’s my lineup, what’s yours?

An Arky wins this one every time…I’ll let him give you the Super Group Formula™

I’m always reminded that The Beatles hava living bassist and drummer and The Who have a living vocalist and lead guitarist. How is it possible that they haven’t come together to form a supergroup called Who are the Beatles!

Howlin’ Wolf
Slash
Malcolm Young
Bootsy Collins
Jimmy Chamberlin

Dio (vocals)
Steve Harris (bass)
Danny Carey (drums)
Slash (Lead guitar)
Malcolm Young (Rhythm Guitar)

May we utilize zombies? If so:

Vocals: Jim Morrison (The Doors)
Lead guitar: Stevie Ray Vaughan
Rhythm guitar: Brian May (Queen)
Bass: John Entwistle (The Who)
Drums: Dave Grohl (Nirvana)
Keyboards: David Sancious (E Street Band)
Sax: Alto Reed (Bob Seger Silver Bullet Band)

vocals: Paul Rodgers
lead guitars: Kirk Hammett and Santiago Dobles
acoustic guitar/vocals: Anneke van Giersbergen
bass: whatsisname, the one guy from Morphine
drums: Dany Carey

You don’t get out of singing just because you can play an instrument.

Living:
Richard Thompson and Steve Cropper - guitars
Gregg Allman - keys
Jack Bruce - bass
Levon Helm - drums
Everybody sings (except Cropper, I think)

Zombies:
Duane Allman and Brian Jones - guitars
Phil Lynott - bass
Warren Zevon - keys
Keith Moon - drums
Again, everyone sings

Keith Moon? Singing? Well, technically, I suppose he sings. But this clip from Tommy shows that he couldn’t even sing as well as Oliver Reed.

I thought I remembered him singing more in this, but I guess not. Ok, Moon’s off the hook.

Zombie band! I like the twist this is taking! Still not changing my answers (as I can’t think of any zombies better than my originals anyways) but, oo, zombie band!

Guitar - Roine Stolt
Bass - Pete Trewavas
Keyboards - Neal Morse
Drums - Mike Portnoy
Vocals - all of the above

Sorry…late to the thread…you mean AC/DC playing Elvis Costello songs with Robin Zander singing?

Ding!

He is just about adequate here. Well, he can (kind of) carry a tune…

Couple of dead guys in my group:

Vocals: Mikael Åkerfeldt
Lead Guitar: “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott
Keyboards: Henri Sorvali
Rhythm Guitar: Scott Ian
Bass: Cliff Burton
Drums: Gene Hoglan

David Bowie
Eric Clapton
Paul McCartney
Stewart Copeland

•Vangelis
•Gabriella Robin
•Lisa Gerrard
•With Hans Zimmer on drums.

Imagine the old Maxel ad, only with more crying blood.

Terry Kath- Guitar/vocals

Stevie Ray Vaughan or Duane Allman - Guitar/vocals or guitar I would like to hear Kath interact with either. Hell, let’s have both.

Bass- Like I know what constitutes a good bass player. I suppose I could stick Peter Cetera in there. I hate him for his post-Kath pop balladeering, but when Kath was around, he provided good vocals on great tunes. I think a bunch of good/capable vocalists could make things interesting. I’m open for suggestions.

Keyboards - Who would fit? Gregg Allman? Yeah, I’ll go with Gregg. Another singer as well.

Drums? Not a drum fetishist, so I don’t feel strongly about this. Mick Fleetwood? Yeah, why not? He’s a kick to watch, anyway. Oh hell, wait. . . Buddy Miles!

I could change the keyboards and go with the all-zombie band.

All of the Above, eh? I see what you did there. Good call.

Me, I’d go with…

Lead guitar/vocals/lyrics & music - Matthew Bellamy (Muse)
Lead guitar/vocals/lyrics & music - Lindsey Buckingham (Fleetwood Mac)
Bass guitar/backup vocals/lyrics & music - Steve Harris (Iron Maiden)
Drums/lyrics - Neal Peart (Rush)
Keyboards - Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater)

Great musicians, tons of songwriters. Hard to imagine these guys ever suffering from writer’s block for too long.
