Least Attractive Supergroup

Mine has Alex Van Halen fighting it out with Nicko McBrain for the drum stool, maybe Alice Cooper on vocals and Leslie West on guitar, just off the top of my head.

Anybody want to fill out the band or make alternative nominations?

Steve Perry or Lemmy as the lead singer.

These guys, with Keef on guitar would break cameras at 50 paces.

Personally, I’d put Thom Yorke up front. He may not be the ugliest guy in still photos, but he’s a twitchy little bastard, and I think the creepy factor has to count for something.

Am I the only one who thought that a supergroup was like the X-Men, or the Justice League, or the Avengers?

Does anyone remember an 80’s metal band called Grim Reaper? Their singer was one of the ugliest MF’s I’ve ever seen. Mick Mars from Motley Crue is certainly no prize either.

There’s always Geddy Lee.

Nope. I was all set to nominate the Great Lakes Avengers, myself.

Yeah, I thought about both Mick Mars and Geddy Lee, though I think Lemmy probably gets the job on bass. Actually, I think “Filthy” Phil Wallis of Motorhead would also be pushing for a spot on guitar.

Seems like the ugliest musos are in heavy metal. Well, duh.

I dunno, I think his twitchiness is rather adorable (and this coming from a heterosexual guy). He’s incredibly energetic during their live shows, in a good way.

Maybe it’s just a matter of personal taste. I found it kind of off-putting. Not to the point that I didn’t enjoy the show, but.

Maybe this clarifies: the way he behaves me on stage says “mental illness” more than it does “energetic” to me.

I can see how one might get that impression. Personal taste it is.

Supergroup? Nah, I think the Pixies win the prize.

Good call. Frank Black (err… Black Francis) is one ugly mofo.

That’s not going to stop me from going to see them in two weeks, though.

Pick anyone from Slade: great band, but God they were ugly, especially wearing silver stack-heeled boots.

Does anyone even use the expression ‘supergroup’ anymore? I haven’t heard it since the days of ‘Asia’ back in the eighties…

I believe it’s commonly used to refer to a fictitious ‘super’ band* featuring your favorite or the most talented musicians from several different bands.

*though not necessarily fictitious - big names tend to get together from time to time, e.g. The Traveling Wilburys

And I was thinking the Legion of Substitue Heroes.
