See, that’s the dog, though I believe dogs prefer Bock beer. (“What’s your favorite tipple, Bowser?” “Bock! Bock, bock, bock!”) Mary the Merry Not-so-Old Wench would never settle for a relatively tame (but gorgeous) Merry-Go-Round, and she knows better than to try to do shots on the X-2..
Holy Mutha. The only way you could get me on that coaster is if you pumped me full of Ketamine and supplied a defibrillator to my seat mate, Dr. Julius Hibbert.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 60 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 84 and N.O.S. for the day. Lovin’ the weather as of late. This mornin’ I shall get my first shingles stab at eight-thirty. Afterwards I shall return to da cave to collect OYKW. We shall head over to the church house where I will deal with stuff. Then we will be bears who brunch at Eggs Up Grill. Then, because he for some reason wants to, go to the Ollie’s that recently opened. Well, recently as in about six weeks ago, but the hoopla has died down now. I could do without goin’, but he wants to, so I shall. It is pretty much on the way back to da cave, so there’s that. After all that, the usual sloth, general overall uselessness, nappage, day drinkin’, and assorted retired old fart stuff shall commence.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, bother of bothers, I suppose I must needs purtify and don attire appropriate for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. How I suffer for my public!
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 14c/57f with a predicted high of 17c/62f, and partly cloudy. Weather app says “Nobody is going to the fucking beach today. Well, except for weirdos looking for fucking treasure.” Is it telling us something about our Pilot? Anyway, it’s actually sunny out there and I have the windows open.
red our Nepalese place doesn’t do anything other than curries with the usual variety of accompaniments (naan, rice, roti etc) and their appetisers are all the more usual “Indian” ones like bhajis, pakora, and samosas.
sari sorry to hear your son got laid off but he will be around for a few days to help you with moving and rearranging furniture until you’ve got the new place just how you’d like it.
nellie yay for a PT appointment! And yay for a clean bill of health!
Oopsie that’s a lot of little bits of stress, and they all add up. Take care of yourself there!
JtC that is indeed a train wreck! I’d be inclined to just knock it down and replace it with something habitable We have been talking for ages about moving house and I sometimes look at the local listings, it’s pretty depressing even in what is a “decent” price range. Some of the places I’ve looked at online make me glad I hadn’t taken the time to go and do an in-person viewing.
We have a gig tonight, first band’s on stage at 7.45pm so that gives me a point to plan for. The venue’s only half an hour’s drive from here so I need to work back from that and decide what time I’m getting dinner on the table. Other than that, I’ve got no plans so I think I’ll go off to the gym again as I doubt I’ll be able to do my usual Saturday morning classes. I have some fundraising to do at the pet store, but it’s not the one near home so I need to find out where I’m going, and also pack up some donated clothing/shoes to pass on to one of the other volunteers who does all our eBay sales. That will at least create some space here!
Well, yeah, homemade is pretty much always superior, but sometimes you just need quick and easy (she says, as all minds go to the gutter…)
I intend to broach the subject when things calm a bit. Right now, FCD is mega-stressed between his mom, his brother, and his position on the board at Daughter’s school. But I’d already mentioned to him some time back that I don’t want to be ultimately responsible for BIL, so he knows.
I’m sure that’s the case and I’m not overly worried - at least not for us. I’m certain we can get shot well before our cruise in January. MIL is another story, living in that retirement community. I plan to get her insurance info today and make a group appointment for the 3 of us.
Our booze stash is in half of the cabinet over the stove. There are maybe 8 bottles in there - my pseudo-Kahlua, some rum, some vodka, and I don’t know what else… we’re not really drinkers. I should probably rehome or toss most of it.
Good luck with that. I’ve managed not to care most of my life, regardless of where I lived. We were in Jacksonville when they were awarded the team that became the Jaguars and people were bat-crap crazy. Best I could manage was a stifled yawn or two. We used to follow Nationals baseball pretty closely till we lost the channel that carried them and they lost (traded, etc) all the players that we had come to know and love. FCD will watch Dallas as long as they’re not screwing up and he’ll watch the Commanders to root for the other guys, but sports - meh.
Ever since Tobias moved from the pack-n-play in the parental room to his crib in the other bedroom, Roxy has been sleeping in the living room because, well, various reasons. When I was over there yesterday, there was what can only be called a nest in the middle of the living room floor - She slept there the night before. Kids is weird.
OMG - that was terrifying!!! Then again, we’ve seen some trainwrecks over the years when we were house-hunting. Semi-related, it amazes me how on some listings there are multiple photos of the exterior that don’t seem to show anything different or of value, or a gazillion interior shots that only seem to vary slightly in the angle of the camera. I suspect the agent just posted every cotton-pickin’ photo taken. And let’s not forget sinks full of dirty dishes or rooms with piles of crap on the floors - you won’t even pick up to try to sell the place??
Sorry for the hijack…
But speaking of tear-down, this place is finally gone. It has been empty for over 25 years. The story is that the owner and his wife were enmeshed in a messy divorce and she was awarded half the income from the place (it was a tavern) so the husband just closed the doors and walked away. We’ve watched it deteriorate for the last quarter century, and yesterday, the last wall was knocked down. Not sure what’s to go in its place, but a bit of Leonardtown history is gone…
I semi-suspect that the caffeine-free diet coke I had last night really wasn’t. I didn’t fall asleep till after midnight, even trying my best fall-asleep tricks. Then I was awake just after 6. Ugh.
Today, I’m taking MIL to the grocery store and wherever else she needs to go. I may even take her to the hospital this afternoon to visit BIL (she’ll visit, I’ll sit in the lounge.) He’s going to be there at least thru the weekend.
I was hoping to be able to mow the back today, but it rained last night and we might get more today. Dry weekend, tho, so many on Moanday?? I’m also hoping Paul doesn’t find anything too $$$ when they give my car the once-over. I know he won’t mess with me - if he says something needs to be done, it does. We shall see.
I’ve got a little kitchen stuff to attend to, including the cookage of a big batch of veggie-beef soup. I should get it all done this afternoon since we have to go to the school tomorrow to do some stuff. But mostly, I’ll figure out the day as I go along.
It’s 49F, dark and partly cloudy. The expected high is 62F with cloudy to partly cloudy skies all day.
I sort of skimmed through the whole MMP because I was unable to keep up while on the road. I traveled approximately 780 miles this week, visited a meat processing facility that we helped fund, a hospital that we helped fund, a port official as part of outreach (read port as an economic development entity), and a self-help housing project which is being funded by a charity with some of our funds. This is in addition to the office visits. I am tired. I started early in the morning, the days ran long, and I worked until late after returning to my hotel rooms each night. I got home around 1:00 yesterday, fired up the computer immediately, and worked until close to 6:00 p.m. I started the day at 3:30 a.m. and was on the computer by 4:15 a.m.
Today will probably be another long day, and of course, the big Government shutdown cloud is hanging over our heads. Staff are stressed.
I need to catch up but hope those of you who are ill are feeling better, that medical issues for relatives are sorted, and that everyone has the best day they can.
Totally mundane and pointless here, but on Oct 25, 2022, my car hit 200K miles. Yesterday (Sept 28) it hit 210K miles. Bearing in mind that when I worked, I’d put around 26K miles a year on my car, well, yay for being retired!!!
And stoopit CVS just sent a reminder about checking in for our appointment today, after telling us yesterday that the appointment was canceled. Sheesh.
I can’t speak to this season, but historically the local cheer there was mostly “You suck!”
Yaay BBBoo: good on ya for a jab. One down, 2 to go! And everything involving kids is better w Star Wars.
JtC that’s new place will a heck of an improvement. Agree that with that much investment you’re unlikely to have some real housewreckers there. Shame they’ll be raging paranoids with an arsenal to put Wagner to shame.
When I told Her Ladyship about it she totally wanted to go. She continues to surprise me and I’m not sure that’s a good thing. Their menu is limited and my tacos though large and delicious were not a carb dosage I can stand too often. But we shall return.
Taters: sounds like your agency does a lot of good. Shame quite so much of it is funded by your skin. Stay safe out there. And Zen; mostly Zen.
FCM I took note of my car mileage when I retired too. Be interesting to see how much it does or doesn’t change. My local driving so far is unaffected and I probably did about 5K miles of to/from irk per year. Which I could probably offset if Her Ladyship and I develop more going out to kultcha’ events farther afield.
As to me:.
I knew it was coming but today’s the day. Actually, would have been 3 or 4 days ago but for the clouds. Sigh.
My balcony faces south with full 180 degree exposure from roughly due east to roughly due west. During summer when the sun rises farther north then moves westward more vertically and higher / more northerly in the sky, the balcony is in shade all day. The sun is obstructed by the building or by the balcony above. The sky may be bright blue but you never have direct view of the sun.
Today about half-hour after sunrise the sun emerged blinding from behind the building. Which means there is no place or direction I can sit out here where a screen is readable. At the moment it’s hiding behind a rain shower over the ocean. But once it gets past there, my daytime balconatin’ will be a thing of the past for about 6 months. In another couple weeks the sun will emerge from the ocean right in my line of sight. It’ll be very pretty to watch that first minute or 3 as it clears the ocean, then I’ll need to retreat indoors. Damn. And yes, quite the first world problem compared to most MMPers’ challenges.
The upside is that I can now tan & snooze up here if going to the pool or beach seems too much trouble. Just need 3 or 4 layers of towel to build up a soft surface; we don’t have a chaise, nor room for one; just upright stacking chairs & little corner tables and the floor is a very rough non-skid over concrete. Might get an air mattress or those mats you put under sleeping bags. A yoga mat seems a bit too thin.
Today will be a busy bee day for me. Once I hit [Send] I need to get started sheveling, then off to the GP for a follow-up from the testing I did Monday. My reading of the results is benign, so this may be more of a social call. Then off to the pharm again for my fourth & last vax of the season: tdap. That’s an every-ten-years thing, so I hope I get to do it again at least once more, and ideally 3 times. Funny how once you start thinking of events & purchases in that fashion it sort of becomes a habit. Not sure I want to continue in the vein (heh!).
Then time for quick lunch at home. Once fed, it’s off to the eye doc for my comprehensive annual. Like my other docs, this is the first time in 50 years the FAA hasn’t had a veto on which treatments I get for what. Which includes evaluating whether my cataracts are actionable. Starting to have haloing, but I’m generally pleased with my vision, and may have more to lose than gain from lens replacements just yet. Also some decisions about contacts and specs. Including the idea of different near and far correction in each eye, something that was anathema to FAA but that Her Ladyship has been raving about since she got contacts like that 15 years ago. Would be nice; despite my contacts I find myself wearing my drugstore readers nearly every minute of the day. Her Ladyship has been wearing her glasses the last few days wile her conjunctivitis finishes clearing up. It sure ages her look. With my perpetual readers I’ve got to look old to her and everyone else too. Can’t have that.
Then (assuming the eye doc is timely and she usually is) I have an hour or two of slack, and off to Big Boy dinner w my pal. A Brazilian Steakhouse where vast quantities of assorted meats will be snarfed washed down with too much South American wine. Considering Ubering to that one, though more for the return journey than the going.
Yays, boos, and hugs to whoever I didn’t explicitly call out. I did read and consider very word.
Unsettled weather this morning as the daily traffic jam inches onto the freeway and I am once again grateful that I don’t have to join them. Dark skies, lightning, thunder and rain.
I have a midmorning appointment with the surgeon, who will offer soothing reassurances regarding my knee leakage issues, pat me on the head, and collect his fee. At least he’s concerned enough to see me in person about it.
Breakfast today is brought to you by oatmeal! Q’itih’s breakfast is brought to her by Chewy!
Morning all. Days seem stuck in the same rut; 60’s in the morning getting to the 80’s in the afternoon and no rain forecast for the next week or so. May have to get the sprinklers out on Sunday after mowage so I still have a yard that is decently average for the neighborhood. Should get some swimming and sauna in today, otherwise i will contemplate doing housework and perhaps even perform some.
Cookie, hope the surgeon also gives you a Lollypop…
Pilot, hope shots, eye doc and Boy’s Out dinner night go as planned.
nellie, so glad you got a (fairly) good response out of them; fingers crossed that it helps.
FCM, don’t think I ever got a car much over 100,000 miles; I’m currently at 61,000 on a 7 year old vehicle and putting about 5-6,000 miles or so on it each year, about half of what I was doing when working.
Taters, that is a lot of different and hopefully worthy things; but yeah, being on the road will wear you down.
FCM, yeah, family issues and property can be a major PITA…I am sure Sari would agree with that. Enjoy your day. And sounds like Roxy is just establishing her territory,no smelly noisy brothers allowed!
Boo fae, enjoy the music and the fundraising.
Swampy, I have a Ollie’s fairly close by, it’s good if you need a particular thing or just want to browse and maybe find something you didn’t know you needed (but now do), but I only visit there 1-2 times a year. Have fun anyways.
OK, back to the morning internetting and then some sammiches for First Meal in a little bit. All y’all take care.
Mooooom, I’m still working and drive about the same mileage as you do retired since I don’t live very far from the job now. I bought my car new in August , 2018 and just hit 51K miles.
metal mouse, I tend to drive vehicles until they drop or get destroyed in an accident. My two S10 pickups were retired at 261K and 302K miles. At that point, anything that went wrong would cost more than 1/2 the book value to fix, which is my cutoff for keeping a vehicle around.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, a load of towels in the dryer, a load of clothes in the wash and fixing to do KP and clean. After that, it will be a run to CVS and Aldi, then chillage.
My neighbor is using some sort of metal scraper to clean the acorns off his sidewalk, if I’m squinting blearily out the window correctly.
The sound (metal against concrete) is horrible, and I hate everyone who is retired or works 1st shift right now.
Do you people all hafta be so damn cheerful? And noisy?
I clicked the link, thinking, “Aw, it can’t be that bad.”
You should be ok, metal mouse and I already took the hit for the Mumper team for sudden $$$ car repairs for the month.
I got the RSV and flu jabs a few weeks ago so I’m as immune as I’m gonna be for a while. Even the pharmacist couldn’t think of another vaccine I needed~I asked.
I heaved. We had a Blueberry doing bags, who was better than Shaggy. Of course at one point, Shaggy was pushing down a jam on SSLAW #2 slide, then he tells the Blueberry, “only a trained professional should do that.” I was thinking, “Trained professional fuck up?”
I shall take a quick nap, then maybe head up the animal shelter. “If the mutt don’t come to Mohamed, Mohamed will go to the mutt.”
