The trailer for Burn After Reading, the Coen Brothers’ upcoming dark comedy, looks funny as shit. I know it was discussed here a couple of months ago, but I thought I’d start a new thread for the purpose of soliciting early reviews rather than re-animating the older thread.
So, have any of our early-film-reviewing Dopers seen this one? I know there must be one or two of you. It’s due out next month, and I have high hopes for this one. It may even lure me into the theaters, which hasn’t happened for a long time. I’m a wait-for-the-DVD kind of person.
There haven’t been any screenings for the general public or press yet so no one has seen it (unless they’re working on the movie). Believe me, we’ll hear about it when screenings start happening. It’s the Coen Brothers. It’s their first film after winning all those Oscars. It’s their first comedy in years (since The Ladykillers). It stars Brad Pitt and George Clooney (and Francis McDormand, who hasn’t been in a CB film since 2001’s The Man Who Wasn’t There, not to mention John Malkovich, Tilda Swinton, and J.K. Simmons).
It looks great. It will be great. I have no doubt. I can’t wait!
My condolences on your theater aversion.
And might I just pause for a bit of Brad Pitt appreciation? He’s coming off of the brilliant The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford, right into a Coen Brothers comedy, the David Fincher movie The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, the next Terrence Malick film Tree Of Life, Darren Aronofsky’s next film, The Fighter, plus a couple of smaller projects (playing Nixon lawyer John Dean in Ryan “Running With Scissors” Murphy’s Dirty Tricks, plus the in-development/idea stage, who knows, comedy Chad Schmidt, about a talented actor who can’t make it in the business because he looks too much like Brad Pitt…!),
AND, he just got signed to lead Quentin Tarantino’s next film, Inglorious Bastards!
Holy shit! He’s leading a charmed life.
