Burn Notice 8/6: Season Finale!!

Oh God…two guys talking with Irish accents. Oh my…excuse me while I melt into a puddle of goo.

I was impressed with how fast Michael whipped the gun out to shoot Strickler. And how does one get a job like Strickler’s anyway, Agent to the Spies?

I was surprised the realtor didn’t mention the reeking cigarette smoke in the house.

“You hit like a girl.” Dayum, Fee.

So, Fee was IRA? And Michael played a fellow IRA member? And that’s how they met?

And one more time…Irish accents…mmmmmm…

I thought they made it pretty clear that Fee was IRA.

I really do need to watch season one. I wasn’t interested in the show at first, but Ivylad, who watches very few TV shows regularly, got me hooked about midway of season 2.

Ahh ok.

The thing about speed in a fight is a matter of commitment. Even though Michael’s gun was behind his back he committed to the action and so had time to pull it while Strickler had to decide whether or not to kill the Golden Goose. That works even if the gun is pointed at you. It takes time to make a decision and execute it.

He didn’t bother running his mouth like his opponent. He just shot the guy.

I don’t know if I’ve seen them all, but it is pretty rare at least. I think the ep where he killed the guy on the boat doesn’t count, since he was going to die anyway.

Anyway by not abusing a “superman reflexes” angle, they made it more effective when he actually did it. I was startled and then I wondered why…it’s a show about a former spy, the spy shoots a guy and I’m surprised?

I have to applaud his toppling over of the knicknack shelves when Strickler wouldn’t get off the phone. It just goes to remind you that while Michael is calm, cool, and collected most of the time, you do NOT want to piss him off.

Well as I was saying before, about the reflexes. What really takes the time is making the decision. Once the decision is made you move at the speed of neurons and inertia. So for Michael it was the speed of his movement vs the speed of Strickler’s thinking about reacting.

I have to admit that I was really surprised that Michael killed Strickler. But I think it was more of a reflection of his feeling for Fi than his feeling for Strickler. He had Fi kidnapped, and sent her to be tortured. I think that was what sent Michael over the edge.

Does this show have the best writers on TV or what? Just when I thought they were writing themselves into a corner, they pull out another season. Take note writers of Lost and Heroes.

Fi: “I am NOT one of your clients, Michael!”

[Freeze Frame, whoosh sound]

Title: “Fiona-The Client”

Classic!

I hate to be the guy that says this, but I really hated this episode, of all the episodes this is the one that kept me scratching my head.

I really didn’t like the scene when Fee was about to drive into an ambush, while Michael and Sam were watching over head.

But the worst scene for me was the extraction team that bean-bagged Michael, and then put four shots, at close range, into the brother’s chest.

When Michael wakes up, Sam and his mother are there trying to save the brother, there is lots of blood, and they’re trying to stop the bleeding from his upper chest. And for some reason, I couldn’t shake the feeling that Sam was in on it. The entire dialog, with Sam conveniently away, and then shows up after, “sorry Michael, I tried to get here as soon as I could.” How did he even know?

But then a few hours later, the brother is on the couch, with a bandage around his stomach, a completely bare chest, and acting as if he got punched instead of shot.

Why not just bean-bag both Michael and the brother and move the story along that way. Why the need to pretend that Sam and the mom, without any gear at all, could deal with 4 GSWs to the chest?

And how did the guy know they were there? As far as I can tell, Sam was that found the place, set them up there, and then left. Very suspicious.

I will say I’m REALLY glad Michael show Strickler, it’s what I wanted him to do to all the previous annoying handlers.

Oh, I also didn’t like the phone call with the CIA guy, “Michael, I’m scared, come to my apartment, this is the address.” Sounded like a trap.

Did I mention I love the show?

Strickler tipped O’Neill’s team (the Lucky Charm gang, indeed!) because he decided Fee was a distraction to Michael. As he told Michael, he could either have Fee, or his old job back, but not both. I can only assume that someone with Strickler’s mad skilz could have tailed Sam/Fee/Michael to the safe house.

I agree, I thought Diego was setting Michael up too. Surprise when Michael found out he’s out in the cold with no idea who is hunting him.

I like Mike blowing Strickler away. He waited till he had a shot and took it.

I sort of agree with you about Diego calling Mike. That was totally stupid on his (Diego’s) part. He should have known his phone would be bugged.

He had consumed an alcoholic beverage.

I checked while editing the episode today, and Mike shot him with Fi’s favorite H&K with the silver slide. Symbolic, but of course it is now at the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico what with the slugs recovered from the body. I bet Fi will be pissed.

She went to the warehouse early in the episode looking for it and he said it was around there somewhere, though he had it in his hand. I think he kept it, figuring she wouldn’t leave without it. Maybe he had it at Strickler’s because he was going to give it to her when she left, or maybe he figured that way he would make sure she said goodbye.

I am sure that Fi is practical enough that throwing away her favorite gun after it saved her life is perfectly acceptable.

He took it to her house and found the brother there. Things got complicated and he kept it because he needed a weapon. “All my toys are packed up to be smuggled back in.”

And she wailed and gnashed her teeth (1) about Strickland.
Mike can get out of it. “You were right and I was wrong about Strickland, Fi. I shot him twice in the chest with your Silver Slide HK. I used the body in a ruse, so your HK is at the bottom of the Gulf. It’s My Fault, and I’m Sorry.”

(1)Bitched.

Nice episode, and was truly surprised Michael shot Strickler and that ends that.
Memo to actor who plays Strickler - get better agent and look what happened to Monk’s first assistant when she asked for a raise.

Where, however, has that police woman gone - the one from the first few episodes this season? The one who said she had her eye on him and would get him back for framing her partner? I would have thought she might have shown up, considering there was copious damage done in and around Miami.

However, I am really hoping this means that Sharon Gless (his mom) now starts to get some meatier scripts helping Michael in future episodes instead of just bitching about him coming home for dinners once in awhile. She is far too good an actress, and her character is far too much fun, to let her just mill around in the background. I hope she is not included in a few more stories as a real operative of sorts.
