Uhm, McCain has said very negative things about the Vice-Presidency - I can’t see him accepting the offer. However, if he won the primary (a possibility) I think Bush would make a good running mate.
McCain has specifically said he won’t accept the VP slot. He says he is of more value to the country as chairman of the Commerce Committee, etc, in the Senate.
James Garner, FDR’s first VP: “The office of Vice President isn’t worth a jar of warm piss (or shit, I can’t recall which).” President Johnson expressed the same feelings as Garner, and of course was later VP. Just because he has made negative comments about the office doesn’t mean he won’t take it. But the Republicans are too desparate for the Presidency, so I imagine Elizabeth Dole will take the VP spot (to draw women voters) if Bush is the nominee.
“I hear the mermaids singing, each to each. I do not think that they will sing to me.”
-T.S. Eliot
Here’s my question: why in the name of Choo-choo Charlie can’t I see any Republican debates on TV??? I now that a few have been on, but I didn’t catch them. However, every time I turn on MSNBC I see the two Asses (what? it’s their party symbol) saying the same shit over and over again. “I believe in universal health care…” “I’m willing to cut out all TV ads, and simply debate twice a week, if Senator Bradley will agree to it…” Shut UP. Why does the media seem to be showcasing the Democratic primary? Is anyone else noticing this?
The IQ of a group is equal to the IQ of the dumbest member divided by the number of people in the group.
A whiff of Bush-McCain partnership has surfaced in the media - it was a mention on NPR. While still battling it out, I think McCain with have to join or get massively burned by Bush’s PR department…
Also - the VP = death thing is if you are on a LOOSING ticket. Sure pol. death. Winning ticket can be played to advantage (Bush Sr.) but it is an all or nothing proposition. And if the Reps. feel McCain lost them the election (as VP or not) he will probably be out on his ass from the mainstream party, until of course the inevitable drama of forgiveness and redemption, or he becomes a dem. weird and scary stuff.
John McCain for President! Any man who can defeat TWO gangs of terrorist thieves single-handedly – without wearing any shoes, the first time – just to save his wife gets my vote!
Actually, not even close to true. Unless you’ve a skeleton in your closet that only comes out when the national press starts focusing upon you, I can’t think of anyone it’s truly hurt.
Lloyd Bensten: 1988 VP nominee for the Democrats; Bensten came out looking like a gentleman, and was considered a prime candidate for the 1992 nomination.
Bob Dole: 1976 VP nominee for the Republicans; despite a major gaffe in a 1976 debate, was still considered a party leader and major contender in 1980, 1988, and 1996.
I could name others, but probably the biggest example of this theory being absolutely incorrect is that in 1920 the Democrats went down to the biggest defeat they had ever seen (and would not see again until 1972). The Vice-Presidential candidate for the Democrats? Former Assistant Secretary of the Navy Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
Somehow I doubt that having lost was the touch of death for his career.

This could be YOUR sig line! For just five cents a post, JMCJ Enterprises will place YOUR sig line at the bottom of each message!
Perhaps that was too strong -
You managed to mention one really successful former loosing VP. The other two never made Pres. and add in all the rest that were loosers.
Seems it is the “kiss of a lack-luster politcal career”.
Some great men were given the nod for the Vice-Presidential bid, but for the most part, the Vice-Presidential spot on the ticket is reserved for party hacks, people of no skill but great geography, and ticket-balancers (“I see. Let’s choose a Vice-President as opposite as possible from the President. That way, we can ensure that they always argue and never work together. Good plan.”).
Read Bland Ambition. It’s a great study in how amazingly mediocre most Vice-Presidents were.

Hey Rob, the country dumped “daddy-bush” on his try for a 2nd term! (And for the sleaze bag Bubba yet!) I have a feeling that one 4-yr term will be all the country could take of this Bush.
Its ocurred to me that the Bush campaign is like a dot com IPO - all expectation of market value, no expectation of substance. He has gotten tons of money just because people think he can win, which makes it more likely that he will win. If Bush takes the primary it will be pretty clear what is wagging what.
The Reps. are all about the economy, and I’m not sure if a prez. can influence it that much (maybe it’s congress and the fed reserve), BUT, if the economy suffers under Bush, he’ll be out in 4. I hope he doesn’t start a war to get votes tho.
The democratic field is pretty weak (the whole line up both side is weak), and that .com name recognition will work for Bush. It’s weord, he will win because he CAN win…
