On the lighter side, one Bush Administration official doesn’t think that the American people would support a US response to the nuking of Israel.

A senior Bush administration source said that the proposal for an American nuclear umbrella for Israel was ridiculous and lacked credibility. “Who will convince the citizen in Kansas that the U.S. needs to get mixed up in a nuclear war because Haifa was bombed? And what is the point of an American response, after Israel’s cities are destroyed in an Iranian nuclear strike?”

Guess they don’t teach the policy of MAD, or the importance of Israel in politics at Bob Jones University.

Co. buys back Bush library domain name for $35K

George W. Bush’s presidential library domain name has been retrieved after a Web developing company accidentally let it expire — and it apparently came at a high price.

Raleigh, N.C.-based Illuminati Karate paid less than $10 for the http://www.GeorgeWBushLibrary.com domain name and sold it back earlier this year for $35,000 to the library’s contracted Web developers, Yuma Solutions, said George Huger, lead Web developer for Illuminati Karate.

• with its international reputation at an all-time low (Guantanamo Bay, Abu Graib)

Yup, that’s right. Bush “let” the economy crash. Gosh darn that Bush, if he just hadn’t let his hands slip, the economy would have been just fine.

Fact is, the president does not and never did have much poer o’er the economy.

I think that is probably true, but if you’re gonna claim credit for lifting the economy circa 2001, you gotta accept the blame for the crash of '08. Consistency & all that.

I’m not going to look for faults here. Bush’s African aid program may not have been perfect but no major program is. Overall, Bush deserves credit for increasing foreign aid to an area of the world that needed it. It was a positive act by his administration.

No, giving money to abstinence-only programs which are worse than useless instead of giving free condoms and educating (and empowering) women on how to use them is not a positive act. From what I’ve heard (no cite) he activly cut funding to those programs that promoted condoms.

As with most US “foreign aid” you only get credit for aid that helps the people over there, not what’s good for your own economy or what fits into your ideology.

That is correct. On the BBC World Service I heard some heart-rending tales from various third world places who lost funding because they provide contraceptive advice. One even lost its funding just for having a poster.
