A new poll places President Bush’s approval rating among Black Americans at 2%. To put this in perspective, Black Americans gave Jefferson Davis a 5% approval rating. Admittedly, Davis hasn’t done anything bad to Black people lately.
Linkypoo?
Sorry for the tripple post, but having read the cite I just provided I see that their sample consisted of only 89 blacks. Hardly a valid sample size.
A similar poll conducted showed an approval rating of 12 when a larger sample size was used. Still rather damning, but not 2%
African Americans typically skew Democratic about 90 to 10, and the best the Republicans have ever done in modern times is 20 percent in that demographic.
Assuming that people know their own political interests best, or assuming that race does not cause differences in intelligence (which I firmly believe based on anthropological data), that means that African Americans have access to some knowledge and/or experience the rest of the country does not.
Ya think?
I wonder what that experience could possibly be?
There was a big Republican push to do better in the African American community, with some success. Then Katrina came. 2% sounds about right.
Republicans have never done too well with hispanics either, who generally go Democrat. I’d be surprised though if, even with things like Katrina and how it was spun as anti-Black, Bush’s actual approval rating has dropped to 2% of all blacks in this country. Even if its true though I’m unsure what that means for the Republicans as a whole…after all Republican Party does not equal Bush. I suppose we’ll see next year if the Republican’s have gained or lost (or most likely, IMO, stayed generally the same) ground with blacks/hispanics.

You sure about that? I’ve heard exactly the opposite, though I have no cite for that.
Cubans are heavily republican, but all other hispanics are heavily democrat. The big difference is that Cubans are concentrated in Florida and are strongly organized politically, whereas other hispanics are more geographically dispersed and tend to stay out of politics. So you have a very vocal and important group of hispanic republicans in the swing state of Florida who get disproportionate media attention and political attention.
Pretty much what Lemur866 said. I know my own kin are almost exclusively Democrat. I did hear something about Republican’s making some inroads in the last few elections, but overall I’d say they have a LONG way to go before they seriously cut into the Democrats near monopoly on Black/Hispanic voters.

The margin of error for a poll with 89 respondents is a little under 11%, which is consistent with the 12% figure you gave.
It also means the approval rating might be negative 9! That means they recruited white people to hate Bush as honorary negroes.
Well, yes… but a result of 2% with a margin or error of 11% means it’s a useless study, at least in that particular. Heck, I’ve never even seen a major research study with a margin of error above three or four percent.
Did they really conduct opinion polls during the Civil War? :dubious: And was this supposed “5% approval rating” just amond free blacks or did it include slaves?
Suggests to me that poor blacks are more politically aware than poor whites, on average.

In other news today, it is reported that an enraged bear broke into the Vatican, and proceeded to defecate on a terrified Pontiff. When subdued, the bear explained that this was due to anger over the Pope’s “Is the Pope Catholic” saying being so much more popular then the bear’s preferred saying.

Not if they’re giving Jefferson Davis any sort of positive feedback.
I believe the Davis thing was a joke. I know it made me laugh. Of course, if 50% of Americans know who Jefferson Davis is, I’d be surprised.
