Bush's answer to Katrina screwups? Extreme Makeover, naturally!

Almost as tired as the Bush-Bash Threads like these. ALMOST.

Should we start a Reeder’s replacement contest thread? You would have certainly qualified with this lamer.

Well, rather than direct the conversation to “another Bush Bashing thread” or bring up Clinton, I’ll ask the Republican/conservatives to answer choie’s question: Why is Laura going on Extreme Makeover? What is your guess at the reasoning behind this?

I beg to differ. Considering the stain on Monica’s infamous blue dress, the evidence clearly demonstrates that Clinton not only thought about withdrawal, but practiced withdrawal.

Wow, reply #4 and you bring up a Clinton just because it’s your dittohead duty.

Someone pay you by the post, or are you trying to outdo Reeder on the 5000+ posts of the same thing over and over?

Personally, I figured it was Laura getting a tit lift. They’ve always looked pretty good-sized, and at her age you’ve got some sag going on…

-Joe

What if she went on Pimp My … Oh never mind, even I’m not sick enough for that

Merijeek, choie beat you by almost 24 hours. And 41 minutes later Squink outclassed you in a response. Sorry, Joe. You really sucked an egg on this point. :wally

No, that only proves that Monica doesn’t swallow.

Christ on a cracker already. This isn’t policy, it’s spin. Bush is a politician, and like any politician, when they need numbers, they do things that get them numbers, nothing new under the sun. Besides that, there’s nothing wrong with her going on the show. Despite the somewhat obvious ulterior motives, it simply can’t hurt to have someone who at least appears to care go someplace where people need comfort. This is just rabid partisan prattle and tailchasing.

And let’s not get started on Duffer and the OP (posts 4 & 6) Blah blah blah HILLARY, blah blah blah LAURA blah blah blah.

Laura Bush is the first lady, doing softball first lady things. Hillary is a Senator, doing her job for her constituents, but here’s news, you chuckleheads…THE TWO JOBS ARE SEPERATE. I wouldn’t want Hillary picking up debris, any more than I’d want the First Lady making policy.

Some people just look for anything to latch onto. There’s plenty wrong with Bush, but this, small on the list, man.

Well, at least you got your retarded ass so that after 5000 posts you finally have a third post beyond ‘But Clinton’ and ‘That democrat in disguise as a Republican raised my cigarette taxes!’.

Just think, you’re almost like Stephe96 but without the mad grammar skillz.

-Joe

Oh for fuck’s sake. The point’s so far over your head you need a telescope. Look dude, if the administration had reacted immediately and responsibly to Katrina, a tragedy affecting thousands in multiple states of the country they’re supposed to be in charge of, this wouldn’t be so egregiously offensive. You’re right, all administrations do some spinning and PR moves when the polls are a little down. But an attempt to cover the administration’s ass for completely fucking up during a major disaster – and doing it in this half-assed, utterly shallow way that doesn’t address any of the real, pressing needs that a government should be dealing with – and doing it for Rita victims rather than Katrina victims, because I guess the former aren’t as angry and, y’know, black – THAT is what is so nauseating.

Normally I wouldn’t care what the fuck Laura does. She’s completely off my radar, as are the two daughters and their little dog, too. This is different. It’s a slap in the face of thousands who are suffering and in dire need of help. The administration should be swooping down there and offering every amount of help it can, not putting on a dog and pony show to convince the public to do what we pay our government to do.

It’s not Laura handing out t-shirts that I mind. It’s that George is using it to distract from his unwillingness to provide the real help his citizens need.

Bread and circuses, man. Bread and fucking circuses.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. This argument’s been put to me by Liberal. And as I explained to him, I and many others have raised a stink about major issues before. Read my response there and plug it in, 'cause I’m tired of repeating myself. (I’m thinking of making a macro with the above response.)

The sad thing is that those big issues don’t have an effect. NOTHING seems to rile up people like duffer or Yeticus Rex, certainly not nearly as much as crap that the Clintons did that wasn’t 1/100th as serious. They’re hopelessly hyponotized by the corrupt bastard in the White House and the people surrounding him. My hope is that by bringing up offenses that are so dumbassed that (most) people would see how ridiculous the administration is, those who are less brainwashed to their ideology might, just might, start to pay attention.

Idealistic of me, I know. But I can dream, can’t I?

You don’t know anything about me, and you lumping me in with duffer proves it…and you’re reaching in elbow deep bullshit in the process. Let me inform you of what I do so you can grasp a better picture. I am a business owner who runs (alongside with my wife) day programs for developmentally disabled adults (READ: Social Service Program). You really have to find a happy medium of being fiscally conservative because of YEARS of frozen rates by the State of California, yet generous enough to attract the right employees with excessive and increasing bureaucratic expenses and hurdles, use ample amounts of program supplies for our clients, etc… Where I am at…you become a moderate almost by default. Do that for about a dozen years, and the stuff that Laura does is just not worthy of outcry. At least she isn’t stealing anything or committed any felonies in the process. And just because I don’t agree with you on the level of outcry, does not make me a hypnotic and/or brainwashed supporter for the right. If anything…call me anti-extremist. I would be happy to see the 1/3 of the most conservative Democrats and 1/3 of the most liberal Republicans depart from their own parties and form a new party. At least my employees can attest to my moderate viewpoint (which is a hell of a lot more satisfying validation than yours), you on the other hand, are becoming a petty shitkicker who (like others) succumb to bashing those who don’t agree with you. Now, that IS sad. The SDMB should be more than that.

I am adding something positive to the human race and I won’t even speculate what your contribution is, but at least I feel good about what I do. Laura going on Extreme Makeover is better than her sitting on her ass and eating chocolate. I just wonder if you can say the same about yourself?

Give that Doper a cigar.

Associated Press:

New York Times:

In the grand scheme of things, is this minor? Yep. Is it worthy of outrage and outcry? Guess that depends on the individual

What it is, however, is another example of shameful and shameless activity by the administration. If it was going to be on C-SPAN rather than ABC, she never would have participated (my opinion obviously). A cynical and wholly insincere gesture.

Would Democrats do this if they were in office? Almost assuredly. That doesn’t make it OK or give the Bush Admin a free pass.

 Uh, yeah. Because all the Bush-bash threads are about things he did years ago and not the latest Fuck-Up-of-the-Week. Your expectation that we see you as moderate and non-partisan seem disingenuous when you shell out such an idiotic rejoinder.

So, I take it come January 21, 2009 we won’t see anymore Bush threads? I mean, he won’t be President then, right? Or is there some arbitrary length of time you’ve set for continued bashing after the next President is sworn in? If so, I’d love to know what it is.

I’ll tell ya, as benign and benevolent as Clinton is, I’m shocked you would ever be upset that his name is brought up. After all, you can sit proudly and bask in his greatness no matter what is said about him.

No skin off my ass. I frankly just don’t give a shit about it anymore. You folks are a little too sensitive about everything. Have fun.

I can’t find any duties of the first lady in The Constitution, nor can I find that it is a elected position.

Please tell me:

1 What role the first lady has in Gov’t operation.

2 What qualifications Hillary Clinton has in being senator?
Also please tell me why the people in N.O. were ‘Too good’ to ride in school busses or amtrak trains, which were available for evac but refused.

::SNORT!::
No one pretends to be that noble.

I’m a little surprised that Laura chose extreme makover over organizing a nationwide book donation and library rebuilding campaign; so no child will be left behind etc. etc. etc. However, major disasters can have odd effects on the psyche. If this is what Mrs. Bush thinks is the important thing to do, more power to her. At least she’s doing something.

Dodging and re-direction. Regardless of your questions, you’re dodging the point of the OP which is why the media-whoring on ABC? By avoiding this and trying to rework the parameters of the discussion, you look like you have no answer.

Yes, actually, assuming the next President is not another Bush, I would be very surprised if dems harp on Bush the way Republicans harp on Clinton, come the day.

Of course we’ll still have Bush threads. He’s done damage that will take many years to repair, assuming it can be repaired at all. When terrorists in 2019 from the Islamic Republic of Iraq nuke New York, I’m sure Bush’s name will come up.
