Bush's Strategy for Victory in Iraq

Step 1: Surge troops into Iraq.

Step 2: ???

Step 3: Victory!

Lest you think I’m joking.

(emphasis mine)

IOW, we’ll be doing something, without actually doing anything meaningful. Unless, of course, you think that killing more US soldiers and Iraqs for some undefined purpose is meaningful.

What does the general in charge of US forces in Iraq think? It doesn’t matter, because he’s apparently going to be out of a job soon.

As for the Iraqi opinion on the matter, I think this BBC article sums it up best:

Come on, True Believers of Bushco, show me exactly how the fuck this is going to work. I want to know exactly what it is that the Deciderer has cooked up with this scheme and how it’s going to end this fucking stupid war. I don’t want to hear platitudes of, “Just wait and see.” or “If you weren’t listening to the liberal media, you’d understand how this would work.” I want the goddamned military strategy behind this. I’ve read Sun Tzu, Patton, von Mellathin, and others, so I can grasp military strategy quite well, thank you. Give it to me. Tell me, oh wise ones, how the fuck this isn’t going to lead to more dead Americans and Iraqis with no end to the bloodshed in sight. If you’ve got the balls to stand behind the President, then now’s the time to show 'em.

This is only about the 5th thread in the past week daring Bush supporters to come out and play. Has it occurred to you yet that with few exceptions they have either completely changed their minds, they have been chased away from here, or they are wisely choosing to remain silent?

Anyway, on to your main point, minus the baiting: it is absolutely uncanny how this war resembles Vietnam.

I don’t think you can remind them (us?) too often of how wrong they were to have given Bush a scintilla of support for his murderous rampage.

Quartz was at least willing to admit he was backing the war even if he wasn’t willing to back up his assertations that things were better the media portrayed. Nor do I think that there’s anything “wise” about them keeping silent. If you’re going to back a cause that has gotten 3K+ Americans killed, and when someone challenges you on your belief, run and hide, that pretty much makes you a coward, doesn’t it? Certainly cheapens the value of those lives lost, if you’re not willing to voice your opinion on the matter, and your opinion is that they are fighting and dying to protect our freedom of speech. If you can’t handle having someone criticize your beliefs, then maybe you should stay the fuck out of politics (including not voting). Oh, hell, there’s no “maybe” about it, you should stay the fuck out of politics. Especially when it comes to sending people off to die.

That this war is starting to resemble Vietnam lies solely at the feet our President, since he’s the one who botched it.

Those who refuse to learn from history are doomed to make the rest of us repeat it.

Well geeze, that’s a little unfair, how was Bush supposed to know what Vietnam was like?

I wouldn’t go so far as to say that. Only a fool stands in front of a firing squad and dares them to shoot. Especially here. Any person who has the temerity to say anything even remotely positive about President Bush gets savaged, so there doesn’t seem to be much point to it. Not that there’s all that much to say that is positive, but if I felt that way I certainly wouldn’t say something and open myself up to a beating. That’s not cowardice, that’s just common sense.

fuck.

for fucking YEARS we got called traitors and fucking worse. and you were fucking WRONG.

bite me. really.

my only regret is that the fucker who led YOU into this mess will go to his grave believing that history will exonerate him, intead of seeing him as the fucking criminal he is.

Why are you going after me? I’m simply explaining why calling out Bush supporters like the OP did is pointless. I long ago admitted that I was wrong. I took my beatings publicly. I’m well beyond that now, as I’m sure you already know. It’s obvious that you have some anger seething just below the surface, but I am at a loss as to why you’re choosing to take it out on someone who confessed his sins long ago.

As for the traitor thing, we did this last week and nobody is able to post a cite that anybody on the SDMB called anybody else a traitor (or worse). I’m sorry if you were called one in real life, but it probably didn’t happen here, unlike when I was called a murderer, both in real life and on the SDMB. I would much rather have been called a traitor, trust me.

At the golf course today I got a lesson on why some people support GW.

The subject of the election came up and a Mr. Average said that the Democrats would raise his taxes. Nothing at all about the election being a repudiation of the war. Nothing about the war at all. Just that GW cut his taxes and that was enough for him.

Easy. Airman has been very proper, candid and forthright on this board about where he stood then and where he stands now and why. Casting him as one of the people Tuckerfan is angrily calling out ( rightly or wrongly ) isn’t fair IMHO.

glad you finally admitted you were wrong in your support of that asshole- but it’s time you stop fucking appologizing for the rest who’ve not bothered.

that’s why. if the words "you, wring, are a traitor’ never appeared, so the fuck what. often enough it was ‘you support Saddam, Saddam lover, you’re supporting the terrorists’ etc.

you supported Bush. you’ve since recanted, good on you. the others who continue to stay silent, even when he’s about to send more to the slaughter can go fuck themselves.

David, I know you are far too much of a gentleman to actually have done this, but I think that I would have “explained” things to him with a 9 iron. I was shocked when my father and step-mother, who are both died in the wool Republicans, started saying Bush was an idiot and admitted voting Democrat in the last election. When I was a kid, they both used to complain about Dems raising taxes.

The oil makes it a bit worse than Vietnam. Also the complaining is revolting. Did you read the news back in 2002 & 3.

Step 2 is Zerg Rush! It worked for the Russians in WWII at least…

How 'bout an order of freedom fries all 'round? Anybody?

No, no. That was traders. It’s that damned American aspirated voiceless alveolar plosive. It’s caused more trouble…

Hats off to Doors for changing his viewpoint and admitting it. How many of us are willing to do so? Let’s hope that we can begin to disagree without questioning each other’s patriotism. I’m not interested in apologies from those who called us traitors, I am interested in making sure that hyper-patriotism doesn’t again stifle civil liberties.

The expression is, I think, dyed in the wool. This formulation seems a bit macabre, under the circumstances.

What complete bullshit! Kimstu did just fine dredging up some shit from one of the biggest cunts around.
