Bush's WMD joke: bad taste or not?

I don’t think you have to hate Bush to find what he did tasteless. I think the amount of offense one feels is probably proportional to their personal involvement with this whole war thing. But you don’t have be a bleeding heart to see how inappropriate this was.

If I had lost someone, or if there was a good chance that I could lose someone in Iraq, then his “humor” would piss me off. I think the president shouldn’t be making light of any aspect of the war until everyone is home safe and sound.

I found it amusing and self-deprecating. Sheesh, the guy can’t win with some people.

It is tasteless, but even if it was only unprofessional the president should not be joking about the situation because hundreds of families have lost so much due to the war. Unlike the soldiers whom Bush sent to Iraq, our leader will never have to experience the death and destruction of war. Don’t joke about it.

You know, everything has to be taken in context.

At the end of the slide show, the president said he wanted to get serious, and showed pictures of a memorial in Afghanistan where American soldiers had buried relics of the World Trade Center.

By all accounts, this part of the show was met with universal applause.

I’m not sure I would have done the jokes about the missing WMD’s, if I were in his shoes. But I don’t think the entirety of his remarks were at all disrespectful of soldiers.

How does Bush’s getting a round of applause for exploiting 9/11 again in his closing slide obviate the grotesquerie of his WMD “joke”? Considering what’s coming to light about his utter failure in the run-up to 9/11, his continued invocation of it is pretty much just as nasty.

Otto, quite frankly, you’re offended that George W. Bush breathes oxygen. Nothing he does obviates, in your eyes, his grotesqueries.

All I was saying was that I didn’t find it offensive. YMMV.

Mr Moto, quite frankly, I couldn’t care less if GWB breathes oxygen. I would just prefer he do it somewhere other than 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Resigning because of the dishonor he has brought to the office would obviate his grotesqueries quite nicely, but I will settle for his bags being packed and on the truck back to Crawford next January 20.

This is not, BTW, an invitation to compare presidential dishonors, so all references to blow jobs in the Oval Office may be left outside.

You did not just say you didn’t find it offensive. Try re-reading your post and see if you can figure out what else you said.
