Busted posting at work.

Monty:

[q]Tell you what: why don’t you tell us again what you don’t like
about the military and the military mind?[/q]

And the point of that would be…? Here Spud is telling you not to “take the bait” and you are ASKING to be baited!!! Jeez, Monty, chill out.

And Spud: I DO take offense. No one was trolling, D. made a comment, Monty jumped down his throat. I know from experience, and shared it with D., that this is not a topic Monty can discuss calmly, a fact he has gone on to prove. And as I pointed out above, he is now requesting bait to chew on, I wouldn’t worry about giving him tips to void getting upset. He apparently likes it.

Sorry Stoidela… I hesitated using the term troll. I knew nobody here was doing it in an adversarial way, but I was trying to make a point that Monty was making an exaggerated response to a provocative (to him) post. I had not seen Monty respond to this topic before, but when he did I had to wonder if he was being sarcastic because of his extreem reaction.

BTW I think some friendly trolling can actually be a good thing. In fact that reminds me that the standard length of a fishing line used for trolling is exactly nine yards… hence the term “the whole nine yards.”

Spud:

No problem.

Interesting tidbit, though: going back and looking at how this all got started, Monty himself began it by making an out-of-left-field reference to something I had said months ago, hoping no doubt to get exactly the response he got, so he could rail some more about it.

I’ve always found it to be true that the more something presses a person’s buttons, the more upset and angry they become at something, particularly when the response seems out of proportion to others, it is because they know how true it is.

Merely an observation.

Stoid:

No; Spud was correct in calling you a troll.

Let’s sum up exactly what’s happened in this thread:

  1. D says he served seven years but disproves that in the very same posting by showing he dishonored his oath by admitting he shammed through those years. That is by no means service; at best, it’s theft. At worst, it’s dishonest. If one’s a religious sort and swore to that oath, then it’s a lie to his deity.

  2. In that post, D also labels the “vast majority” of military enlistees as people incapable of thinking on their own.

  3. I post that D’s assertion is a false statement of the matter as the “vast majority” (100%, in fact) of those enlistees are people, and people, in general, think for themselves. I was also calm. So I used the term “unmitigated bullshit.” That’s calm and it’s the fact of the matter. Saying the majority of enlistees can’t think for themselves is bullshit.

  4. You take a swipe, and an inaccurate one at that, at me by telling D that I’m hypersensitive on the subject of the military.

  5. I remind the readers of the board that you’ve long proven you’re bigoted against the military. Or don’t you recall saying you “don’t like the military mind” or even “don’t like what the military does?” In that particular thread (“People Hunting”, IIRC), I was calm and posted a factual description of both “the military mind” and “what the military does.”

  6. I asked for proof by asking “how does that make me hypersensitive?”

  7. Your response was a non-response. It essentially is “I don’t have to answer that.”

  8. Spud accurately labels you a troll.

  9. You essentially admit to being one right in this very thread.

  10. This was quite calm. Heck, I even waited a day or so to post it so there wouldn’t even be any vestiges of hate. I don’t hate you; I disagree with your assertions. I do especially disagree with your assertions about the military. I was also calm in the People Hunting thread.

  11. In this post, I’m now asking again: How exactly does this make me hypersensitive by asking you for proof?

  12. Most likely result: you’ll not answer the query.

  13. But back to the topic: Busted Posting at Work, along with “Busted Getting Personal E-Mail at Work,” actually have been the subject of more debates than just here on the SDMB. If you’re interested, you can peruse any major news site for some interesting things on the matter. Some of the bosses’ stance is that it’s not just the fact of the time being paid for by the employer but that the equipment used is the property of the employer and thus all activity on that equipment (the computer) is subject to restrictions/monitoring by its owner. Now some bosses give more leeway than others and some are incredibly paranoid (used here figuratively) about possible lawsuits and clamp down on “outside interests” like personal E-mail and surfing the net for sites not related to the jobs. As I posted before in this board, my employer, the Government (in case you’ve forgotten), does place certain restrictions on both surfing and posting; however, there is some independence also provided. Kind of dangerous concept for someone considered incapable of thinking for himself, don’t you think?

Whoops. Shouldn’t have asked that. After all, I have no idea if you’re military-quality non-people or not.

Stoi: Thanks for the defense.

Monty: I want to know who told you that,“people, in general, think for themselves”??!!

Spud: I think a more accurate description would be that Monty was actually trolling for noneother than…Himself!

hehehe

D: No prob, cuz I’m with you on it. You represent another ex-military who agrees with me about the military in general.

Monty:

Have a hoedown, just don’t invite me. You’re hypersensitive on this, you ain’t gonna change, this is important to you (obviously, since the military is apparantly your career) - it’s not to me. I think what I think about both the military and you. I’ve explained it several times in several ways, I’m not going to go there again. It’s really not worth it to me in the slightest. Even for the amusment value of watching you get hysterical.
