Busybodyism strikes DC! New Victoria's Secret PORNOGRAPHIC!!!!

Maybe I should go down there and tell the “Ms. McChurchies” what I think of them via Channel 7 news. Not that I’d make it past the cutting room floor. I need a live feed.

Dummies.

And Australia got the criminals. Lucky bastards.

It’s all in the eye of the beholder. You see what you want to see. :dubious:

They’re obviously iconoclasts.

Great … I have a lunch meeting at that mall on Monday, and I hope the traffic and parking won’t be even worse than usual because people are curious about the damn window. :frowning:

You forgot the:

Fuck Fuckity Fuck Fuck Fuck!

Y’know what store display the big plastic Jesus in one of my neighbors’ yards would look good in? And the Virgin on a Half Shell[sup]TM[/sup] would be smokin’ in one of those teddies, now that I think of it…

Nah. I’ve never actually gone up to Tyson’s with any frequency but the person I went with today has. She said that she’s never seen so many men at the mall - but also noted that it wasn’t as crowded as normal. I don’t think you’ll have a problem.

I just happened across a thread of SUPREME OUTRAGE on a (gasp) parenting board, about these VS displays. I was amused that this herd of mothers who are so vehement about “breastfeeding in public is perfectly natural, so nobody could ever possibly notice the sight of a bare naked human breast,” are so outraged by some plastic mannequins wearing demi-bras or thongs in a store display.

Comments have run along the lines of, (paraphrasing), “I don’t want MY kids to see that sort of sexual display!” “My five year old was asking me questions!”

Well, god forbid! My goodness, what next, will children grow up to discover, oh, sexuality? That will certainly be the end of the world.

Pardon me, I’m just getting the outsider’s view of your country, but I’m confused - music videos with young men dehumanizing their bitches and hos is perfectly alright, but a display of lingerie in a {gasp} lingerie store window is not okay?

(Just for the record and because it’s semi-relevant, mannequins in Canada have nipples! EEK! Mannequin nipples!)

Well, this country is rather famous for it’s high level prudes you know. :frowning:

I kinda hate to say it, but come on, it’s DC. Can you name another city that’s more full of busybodies? Hell, 537 of them were actually elected to be annoying busybodies!

Yeah, all the rest of the country dumped them off on us. Thanks a lot.

And DC is actually a pretty smart market to try this in. It’s overwhelmingly liberal and Kerry had a slight lead in Fairfax Co (where the mall is located).

Sadly all you need is one shrill busybudy to fuck it up for all of us.

This just i n – VS wimps out. The social conservatives win again. I hate Washington.

Thanks for the link, discouraging as it was.

What really pisses me off is the killjoys still aren’t satisfied:

“We will still be there,” said Andrea Lafferty, executive director of the Traditional Values Coalition, a Christian conservative group. “We don’t know if they are going to do this again. People are very upset about it. And the fact that they would do it once shows they lack judgment and that there is a moral deficit at Victoria’s Secret.”

Some people are far more upset about the fact that you can’t keep your damned unwanted opinion to yourself, and you are ruining perfectly legitimate business (and sexuality) for the rest of us.

I guess they expect VS to issue them a memo in advance the next time they change their window displays to, I don’t know, get the Coalition’s approval?

Supreme example of someone having waaaay too much time on her hands and not enough competent adult supervision. Hey Lafferty, get a real fucking job! Yeah, I said fuck. What, ya wanna rumble?

Probably just PO’ed that they don’t carry anything in her size.

Hey, waitaminnit. I resemble that remark. Ain’t nothin’ quite like a VS saleslady who has just figured out that she can’t sell you anything.

“Hey you, Whitehall, ha ha,
Charade you are.”

I don’t think you can really blame a store that depends on both their mall positioning and good publicity when both of those things are threatened. The article makes mention of the Busybody League having talked to the mall management company, and the management company subsequently having a meeting with VS’s parent company, The Limited Brands.

At the same time, I hope there’s a counterprotest from some sort of sex-positive libertine group…that would make for interesting news…

Meh, it’s too bad about the way it ended, but on the other hand, it’s Tyson’s. Snobby, conservative yuppie central. What did they expect? There’s plenty of sex shops here in DC right off of main thoroughfares with mannequins in whips and leather undies that nobody says boo about.
