Avenatti’s reply:
“False accusations?” Like those crimes your fixer Cohen pled to? You are an habitual liar and complete narcissist who also is a disgrace as a president and an embarrassment to our nation. You are so inept that your “best and brightest” are Cohen and Giuliani. Let’s go.
Trump knows ALL about 3rd rate layers, goons and thugs … re Cohen and Giuliani.
Well, I agree with his first sentence. He did show us that. You have to give Trump his due: He has a really uncanny ability to find similarly ethically-challenged people as himself. It is impressive that, even given a list of potential Supreme Court appointees, he could find one who had these sorts of problems.
The entire Republican party found this son of a bitch. This is their nomination as much as it is Trump’s.
Christ, I don’t think Trump is even our biggest problem anymore. It’s the Christian warriors. Trump is being used by the real threats and he’s just too fucking stupid to see it.
These aren’t Christians. They’re amoral sociopaths who use the faintest veneer of Christianity in order to trick people into supporting an agenda that goes against everything Christianity stands for.
Sometimes I think y’all haven’t seen Marjoe.
Sexual predators have to stick together, you know.
Point taken, but they’re still lurking behind Trump waiting to take America hostage.
Another thing that he has in common with Trump is his sense of victimhood. It’s a “national disgrace”? I am surprised he didn’t call it a “witch hunt”!
He did manage to throw Clinton’s name in his rant tho - and something about how Trump won the election.
They have already taken America hostage. I have never seen politicians so afraid of their supporters. To the point that they saw today a man who is not in the least suited to be appointed to the Supreme Court and they will put him there anyway.
Why not? After all, they’ve scored the [del]bronzed[/del] brass ring with that clown in the White House right now.
Kavanope isn’t even suited to his CURRENT appointment on the Court of Appeals, and if or when we get an actual FBI investigation of all of this, he should be impeached off of the SCOTUS if the GOP soils themselves tomorrow, or off of the Appeals Court if they manage to act like human beings and reject him.
Ew! That does not conjure up a nice image.
I’ll admit it caught me by surprise. I initially thought Kavanaugh was a done deal. I assumed the Republicans would have found a safe conservative who wasn’t going to hand the Democrats anything easy to work with.
Well, that’s exactly what they thought they had done. No matter what one thinks of Trump, or of the Republican Senators, I can’t imagine any of them knew that these accusations were going to be made, and I doubt that their vetting process uncovered the issue. Unless there’s something I’ve missed in the reporting about how they knew all along that women would accuse him of sexual assault.
If I were a hard-line Republican on this issue, I’d be tempted to head it all off and suggest the withdrawal of Kavanaugh’s name, to be replaced by someone like Amy Coney Barrett. She’s just as conservative as he is—perhaps moreso, in terms of her actual beliefs and politics—and is clearly a qualified jurist. Democrats and those on the left are going to hate her jurisprudence just like they hate much of Kavanaugh’s, but if Democrats and lefties think that sinking the Kavanaugh nomination is going to somehow magically get them a moderate or liberal justice, they’re dreaming.
Yes, I understand that one of the motives underlying Democratic efforts is to delay the proceeding until after the mid-terms if possible. And if they succeed in doing that, and manage to take back the Senate (hardly a guarantee), then the next steps would be very interesting indeed.
Of course I’d prefer someone who is not a conservative on this issues, but I don’t expect that. I don’t even feel entitled to that, given the last election. We screwed up, and elections have consequences. However, I do expect someone better than Kavanaugh. Just like Pence is better than Trump, Judge Barrett would be better than Kavanaugh. Character matters. Trump and Kavanaugh have no character. Kavanaugh needs to be rejected because he’s a dangerous lying hack, not because he’s conservative.
McConnell reportedly pushed for a different choice, presumably because of the personal finances (and discussion of those have dropped by the wayside in light of recent events). I imagine he would have pushed harder if he knew Kavanaugh had a damned cemetery in his closet.
They don’t, but sufficient pushback might produce somebody who isn’t so transparently in Trump’s back pocket. It’s one thing to accept that the nominee will be a conservative. It’s another to accept somebody without a moral compass at all.
Just nitpicking this to point out that according to normal procedure, a new Supreme Court justice (presumably Merrick Garland) would have been chosen and seated before the last election, but deliberate Republican obstructionism prevented it.
No, that doesn’t mean that Democrats are “entitled” to (or have a snowball’s chance of getting) a non-conservative justice selected during this administration. But it does give some perspective on where the current shitshow came from in the first place.
He needs to be rejected because he was nominated by the America-hating fuckstick (Donald Trump, for those of you playing at home).
