Jake Tapper on CNN was just talking about this and called it a Freudian slip.

Tapper then essentially noted that, to put my own spin on what he said, when Trump tells the truth it’s by accident.

Seems that Jake Tapper ignored the fact that the original tweet was deleted, then reposted with minor changes… with the phrase still left in.

Yep. The alteration was (mainly) that he replaced “acquisitions “ with “accusations.” A lot like ignoring “vulgarian” and focusing (obsessively) on “short-fingered.”

What’s troublesome is that we’re seeing how Donald Trump wages economic warfare. He invents reasons to attack a competitor, and he attacks them alone, one-on-one. He “negotiates” by putting countries in a corner and then expects them to capitulate, and when they don’t, he assumes that putting more chips on the table is a counter-strategy. In short, he’s reckless.

Well its not exactly one-on-one since he’s doing the same thing to a number of different countries as the same time, so its really one-on-several. So effectively Trump self-imposing a multilateral system of economic trade sanctions against the US.

In this particular case he’s also arrogating to himself the sole right to determine whether Mexico has done enough, without actually specifying what exactly it is that he wants them to do. While this allows himself the option to stop at any point and declare victory due to his manly policies regardless of the results, it’s also a pretty shit way of actually motivating Mexico to do anything at all. Why should they?

It’s also a pretty bizarre way of getting them to enact the free-trade pact he’s been bragging about negotiating, but that’s almost secondary at this point.
