On the base level, this is horrifying. On the other hand, Trump once again demonstrates that he’s incredibly pathetic about actually owning/using his authority. A real dictator would just order Barr to have Schiff arrested, and wouldn’t make a huge public show about why it’s not being done.
Maybe he’ll even get frustrated and fire Barr like he did with Sessions, which would also be a good result. Barr knows exactly what he’s doing.

And Barr and Pompeo and Giuliani are all implicated. They intend (according to Pompeo) to completely disregard impeachment depositions. The refusal, in a letter to House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Eliot L. Engel (D-N.Y.), described the demand for depositions by five officials who played a role in U.S. relations with Ukraine.
And McConnell is talking like while he can’t block proceedings, will use some bullshit made up “time limit” to kill proceedings soon as he can.
It’s betrayal and treason ALL the way down.
Anyone putting faith in McConnell to do the right thing here either just landed on this planet or just fell off a turnip truck. Or something worse involving their brains that I shudder to think about.
I’m guessing 3 out of 4 or greater are originated by Russian-backed sources. Which is still far too many people who back the thrice-used condom of a president that we have.
I don’t put it past McConnell at all to change the rules to railroad an acquittal through. But, that has a potentially great political cost. It all depends on what public opinion is, and how much pressure is on the most vulnerable senators. If Republicans will be effectively tarred with supporting a deeply corrupt administration by changing the rules of how impeachments are done, that will hurt them leading up to the election. If it will be ineffective because the voters who matter most are unconcerned about it, then he’ll Merrick Garland the process.

In the video, there’s a short segment of a man sitting, in the right of the frame, and at the very last second he gets a clown nose and hair. What was that about?
That was Chuck Schumer, smiling like the cat that ate the canary, right when Trump volunteered to call the gov’t shutdown the “Trump shutdown.” WINNING! 
I really don’t think McConnell will pull any shenanigans. Not because he has any scruples, of course. But he doesn’t need to. Most Republican senators are cowards who will vote to acquit without coercion. And even if the unthinkable happens and Trump’s support evaporates, Mitch won’t shed any tears. Trump’s usefulness has pretty much run its course - no legislation is going to get passed anyway, and he’s a lame duck regardless. One year off his term won’t mean much.

Thanks. My post #7774 in this thread was just under a half hour after yours in that thread. I don’t think I read that thread, though. So, yeah, Trump pulled that stunt with the Ukraine is because that’s the way he “does business” and I wouldn’t be surprised in the least if he’s pulled that stunt with other countries besides the Ukraine and Australia. Heck, I’m wondering what kind of crap Putin’s asked him to provide for getting something from the Russian government!
I truly have no doubt he will, given the time, trade American lives for his gain.
I’m sure he already has indirectly. Think of the information he gave away involving military and intelligence concerns.
