I am getting the sense now that he’s going to fire Mueller and try to stop the investigation once and for all. It’s now out there that Trump is possibly facing a criminal investigation for obstruction. Trump is once again where he was at various stages of the political campaign and where he was financially in the 1990s. He’s desperate. His back is to the wall. He’s a wounded lion and he’s going to lash out to defend himself and his family enterprise.

The question is, if this goes down, does he also end up having to fire Rod Rosenstein as well? I think Rosenstein would be very reluctant to damage his professional reputation by signing off on what would be perceived as the most egregious case of wrongful termination in American history, or at least since Archibald Cox’s dismissal. But maybe Rosenstein crumbles under pressure the same way that his cabinet has.

There has to be SOMEONE among his “circle” that remembers Watergate, right? RIGHT? This shit feels like Nixon on fast-forward.

Will Rosenstein even be involved in Mueller’s firing, if it happens? I understand he made the appointment because the Evil Keebler “recused” himself, but could Sessions just say “Fuck this, Trump wants him gone!” and fire Mueller?

The whole “Witch hunt” thing is annoying me for many reasons, but mostly because it is rhetorically week usage. There has never been a doubt who the suspected witch was. Can we convince the Trumpists to start using the more appropriate term “Witch Trial.” It has equivalent, if not superior, Rhetorical and hyperbolic impact ,and much more accurately describes what he intends to claim he is a victim of.

And, about his latest tweet, the Washington Post is telling Trump that usually anonymous sources can be countered by not commenting, seeding doubts about those sources.

Unfortunately for the Trump supporters Trump is constantly helping the WP and others to make the case against him and to stupidly confirm what the early reports told us.

Here is the statement issued by President Trump’s legal team, in response to The Washington Post’s report that special counsel Robert S. Mueller III is investigating Trump for possible obstruction of justice: “The FBI leak of information regarding the president is outrageous, inexcusable and illegal.”

Translation: The report is true, and we’re really mad that someone (actually five someones) made the obstruction investigation public.

Trump followed with a tweet that seemed to further confirm that, yes, he is under investigation for possible obstruction.

It is striking that Trump, the anti-leak crusader, didn’t instruct his team to issue a statement along these lines: We are not going to comment on anonymously sourced reports that spread rumor and innuendo. That would not have been a denial of The Post’s report, but at least it would not have been a confirmation.

It appears that Team Trump is going all in on the “witch hunt” defense. Instead of casting doubt on the existence of an obstruction investigation, Trump is acknowledging the probe and trying to use it to cast himself as the victim of a plot to destroy his presidency.

His inner circle consists of alt-right pedagogues, ass kissers and yes-men only interested in making their boss happy, and spin doctors who understand Trump’s hallmark of historical understanding is his recent revelation that Lincoln was Republican.

“Those who don’t remember history are doomed to repeat it.” The Trump circle never heard that quote. If they did, they don’t think it applies to them. Also, Watergate is something that happened to other people decades ago, and all they most likely remember is that it involved tapes and plumbers.
