I suppose that the thread title explains it all, but I’ll elaborate in the post anyway.
I would like to buy a tanto. I have an affinity for pointy objects (although I would never use one)–however, as I am a college student with fairly limited funds, I end up going as cheaply as I can without feeling like I’m paying for a piece of crap.
That being said, I’d very much like to buy a good-quality tanto. I’m not saying that it has to be the best of the best, but something respectible. Pretty much all of my other knives are cheaply purchased, and of varying degrees of quality (my athame–which is the best quality–ran me 8 bucks at a 4th of July fair resale table, the others range from 7 to 20 dollars). I’d like this one to be nice; a centerpiece, as it were. Having it be pretty would be nice–I’ve had enough of the basic black shadowblades (and, besides, that’s what my best friend has)–but I wouldn’t want anything too ornate.
Given all this, how much can I expect to spend? And where would be a good place to shop for one?
I just looked at ebay and searched for ‘tanto’ and came up with 9 pages of them. Everything from cheap chinese ones to swords. I’m sure you could pick up a nice one for $20 to $50.
I have a Cold Steel Tanto. I think it cost about $60 – although they have a similar one for much more. I have a catalog at home that has Japanese tantos (reproductions) for about $125 IIRC. I keep meaning to get one.
Y’now, vunderbob is right. This thread is much more amusing with a misspelling. I can just imagine Angel and Jay Silverheels sitting around her apartment just looking at each other…
Ha! It is to laugh! [sub]I don’t even have an apartment…we’d be sitting in my quad trying to figure out how to keep his damn horse from stepping on all the papers that’re lying all over the place. Plus Shadez’d probably be pissed…[/sub]
