Bye bye Olberman

He was just what MSNBC needed at the time. Perfect anchorman looks, serious voice and a bunch of gravitas. Then he began doing silly voices like the local AM disc jockey and just being mean. MSNBC outgrew him.

By all accounts, he seems a nasty person to co-workers. He may be a Bad Person.

In any event, I hope he saved his money from the Good Old Days as I suspect they are over for him.

What, nobody has quoted the statement released by Current’s PR in response to Olbermann’s lawsuit?

(Bolding of parting zinger is mine.)

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh… hohohohohohohohoho.

That, dear Og, is a thing of snakalicious beauty.

Well if you liked that, just sit back with a big 'ole bag of popcorn, because the PR firm that wrote that is the same one that handled Whitewater and the Lewinski scandal for the Clintons. And Olbermann’s lawyer, Patricia Glaser, is no push over, either.

Ya know, a lot of people are talking about how stupid Gore and Current were for straining their budget to pick up a notoriously difficult to work with Olbermann, and how there were many predictions of an inevitable catastrophic blowup.

But if Current is eventually successful in cleanly severing its contract with KO, was it still a big mistake, or could it turn out to be a net positive? I’d venture to guess that more people have heard (and will hear) more about Current TV now, than they had heard about it when KO relaunched his show there to resounding silence.

Is it possible Gore et al. had this as a Plan B all along? Sure, some of the publicity might appear to be negative, but when you look at the way that Current has tried to brand itself as guerrilla/amateur journalism, it might just end up making them look more… authentic?

If you’re going to try to be the liberal counterpoint to Fox, why try to outFox them with a slick look and opinionated blowhards, a la MSNBC. It’s better to turn your weaknesses into strengths - people are just beginning to embrace alternative forms of media. These days, sometimes looking inept = street cred.

No matter what happens, I don’t see how they could possibly come out of it looking worse than Olbermann. And there’s no such thing as bad publicity, right?

I bet Santorum didn’t think the publicity Dan Savage gave him was good.

Kinda sorry about Keith. He could be incredibly bombastic, but he also asked good questions; and if he never had anyone on who disagreed with him, he also didn’t step all over what they were trying to say. And thanks to him, Rachel Maddow has a show of her own.

Plus, Friday nights with Thurber were wonderful.

You have plenty who sneak your message into every news story, TV show, etc etc though. Can’t that be good enough for you?

Cite?

No, it is not good enough for me. Liberals don’t have the same level of media saturation, and as a party we are not getting out our message, and we need to stand up for ourselves more and stop letting the GOP run us down.

You’ve got a point. Damned liberal news media hardly ever reports on how Obama single-handedly caused the housing market crash, or the overwhelming public demand to carve Reagan’s face into Mt. Rushmore, and those pinko leftist Hollywood types have the gall to show married couples sleeping in the same bed on their depraved liberal TV shows… I heard tell they’re even showing negroes and queers on TV now, prancing around proud as can be, and not once do you see them piled on a bonfire like they oughta be! What you see on TV, that ain’t real America. 'Cept for Fox News, of course, but they can only do so much… amazing they can do what they do, considering the liberal plot to silence conservative voices, ban talk radio, intern all right-thinking folk into reeducation camps and whatnot.

At least we still have people like you, Whatsy, working hard to get the message out. God speed, my brother.

Pretty funny … feel better now?

A little, but it never lasts.

Up your dosage. Repeat as necessary. Which is always. Works for me! Sorta. Kinda.
