Bye Celia

At work I sit next to a nice older woman named Celia.

When I saw her this morning, she was her usual happy self, wishing me a good morning and offering me a cookie to go with my coffee. She always offers, I always decline. She always teases me that if I took a cookie, I might not look so grumpy anymore.

Right before my lunch break, I saw her get up and I just kinda figured she was going the bathroom or something.

She never came back.

She had a heart attack and died, just like that…

From what I heard, she was washing her hands and just collapsed. There were other women in the bathroom, and they called for help. One of the guys is a volunteer EMT, and he tried his best to help her, but she was gone.

I feel just awful. It was so weird looking over at her desk…the framed, smiling faces of her grandchildren, the alway-full candy dish…

You were a good woman, Celia. We’ll all miss you.
And I promise to keep the candy dish full for you.

Love,
Rose

Sorry to hear that, Blu. Sounds like a great coworker, and a friend.

oh my. rose, i’m so sorry.

at my office this happened to a coworker. unfortunately he was on the street on the way home for lunch when he collapsed. i understand the shock and absolute disbelief you are going through. keeping her candy dish full will be a great way to keep her memory alive.

She sounds like an absolutely lovely woman. I hope she didn’t suffer too much pain (and it sounds like it was too quick for her to suffer).

Where I used to work, they sometimes offered grief counseling in situations like this. Maybe they will offer that where you work.

My sympathy to you and your co-workers.

I’m sorry to hear that, Wicked Blue. She sounds like she was a wonderful person who will be missed by many people.

:frowning:

Now I want to cry.:frowning: Please accept this hug, as it is the only thing I can offer at the moment.

Oh, what an absolute sweetheart she sounds like. I’m so, so sorry Blue. :frowning:

(((Celia’s family)))

Thanks for the hugs everyone. I appreciate it.

The strangest thing happened yesterday…
Now, I’ve been working there over a year, and every once in a while Oracle or Notes will go down, and we have to work on a paper back up system. Yesterday, not only did Oracle and Notes go down, but we also lost the phones for nearly two hours. No one knew what to do, we’d never lost the phones before. Hee, can’t do much work in a call center with no phones.
We all sat around talking, and we joked it was almost like Celia knew none of us felt much like working, so she gave us a break.

Thanks, Celia

Rose

Its the way things happen. No one ever leaves as long as they’re remembered.
