The doper guy mouths , “Hi Opal”.
RIP, Opal.
Now, if we could just get a clip of the Rikki Lake program where she gets booed!
So sad to hear of this - I must have been asleep to have missed this thread.
In a spooky coincidence, the weekend **Opalcat **passed, my family adopted my ill mother-in-law’s cat, named, you guessed it - Opal. So we got our own Opalcat. But days later we discovered she was actually a “he”. So now he’s OpieCat, but in my heart he’ll always remind me of the SD community’s treasured friend. Bye, Opal.
My condolences to her family and friends.
I’m sorry to hear of her passing, like others I think she left us way to soon and will be missed.
My condolences to her family at this time.
Declan
I am tremendously sorry to hear of her passing. I only knew her as an acquaintance, and had lost touch with her by the time she left the DC area (though I saw both her and danceswithcats at the farewell party). But the fact that she touched so many lives in struggling to cope with her own speaks volumes about the kind of person she was.
I envy her that.
Condolences to her mother, her son, and her husband. My thoughts are with you.
Oh, man. I check out an old haunt on a break from work and this is what I find.
I am very sorry to hear about the loss of OpalCat. Her family will be in my prayers, and I wish them comfort and peace.
Apologies for this, but there seems to be a problem with the address in Tucson, Faith Community Eastside at 8456 E. Golf Links Road is not showing a church in Google maps, What is the correct address? I need the answer soon.
Am I thinking of someone else, or is she the Doper who used her Roomba as the ringbearer at her wedding?
Googling “Faith Community Eastside” brings up this address on a number of websites.
Faith Community Eastside Church
2901 S Pantano Rd
Tucson, AZ 85730
(520) 721-5017
ETA: Its near East Golf Links Road so maybe their mailing address change???
Thanks, I think I found that in a search but I was not sure, I will call them to confirm tomorrow.
RIP Opal.
Seeing all these names brings back so many feelings.
No, she and her husband did have that. I was unable to see it, not being on the aisle or at another vantage point. But it did elicit quite the reaction from those who did see it.
I was originally the first person to register to the board.
However, that database entry got corrupted and I had to re-register. That’s why I’m like #19
Late to find out, I am saddened to read about Opal’s passing. I met her once, at Gettysdope. My condolences go out to her family and her extended family of the Straight Dope, the Fathom boards, and everywhere else she graced with her presence.
I hope that she found peace.
Ok. the address in the obituary is correct. The church moved recently.
[sent from her memorial] RIP
Another checks-in-once-or-twice-a-month member who just found this news.
I met Opal once, at a local Dopefest, but followed her here on the Dope with interest. I am so sorry to hear of her passing, and wish her and her family peace. It sucks a LOT when a life untimely ends like this.
Peace, Opalcat and family. You’ll be missed.
Are you saying I own a piece of SDMB history in that Roomba?
If so…
Sorry I didn’t see this. I was working on the PowerPoint and program for the memorial service. I know it’s too late now, but to explain, the church moved in December 2012 to a new location a few blocks away. The church moved to the address given. Since that time, the county issued a new address for the church, one digit off. I hope anyone who wanted to come was able to. If I can figure out a way to upload a video of the service somewhere, I will.
It was nice to see someone from this message board IRL.
