They did use the Roomba as a ring bearer at their wedding (based on an off-hand joke I made). One of the groomsmen controlled it with a remote, walking next to the flower girl. the problem was that the battery was old, and despite our tries to charge it up, it barely made it down the aisle. But it made it to where it needed to go.

It’s amazing to me that I’m 41 years old, and that I’ve spent a significant portion of my life involved in the SDMB. I’ve interacted with Opal in one form or another for over a quarter of my life, even if it was only in the form of reading her posts. She has been a major part of the life and culture of this board, and her memory looms large in my mind - even though I have never met her.
I’m so, so sorry to hear this. I remember her from the early days, and I’ll always remember her.

I knew Opal back from the days of the old Straight Dope Message Board on AOL. TubaDiva may remember me (I also posted as “AFiggis”). I am sad to hear of her passing; she will be in my prayers.
I shall be there tomorrow.
I cannot be there, but will be spending some quiet time remembering her in all of her aspect. A remarkable no holds barred soul.
