“Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.”
Words I have tried to live my life by.
Farewell, Scotty.
“Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.”
Words I have tried to live my life by.
Farewell, Scotty.
This quote from an interview with him is very sweet:
http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20050720/ap_on_en_tv/obit_doohan
I read an interview with him in his later years where he said that his hobby was just showing up at tech companies (unannounced) and asking for a tour, which he always got. Seems the companies were just chock full of guys who became engineers because of him. Doohan also claimed that it was his idea for the character to be Scottish.
My greatest memory of James Doohan was when he was the speaker at a local Trek Convention. He said he is always asked what would have been different if he were Captain of the Enterprise?
His reply,
First off,
McCoy would never be allowed to say “He’s dead Scotty”
Sulu would never be allowed near knives
and
ENSIGN Kirk would not always get the girl.
Thanks for the memories Scotty
That’s Russian, isn’t it?
Awwww, another piece of my childhood gone. Remember him from a few cons and he was no-nonsense but charming, with a keen gaze when thinking.
A war hero, a Canadian immigrant (like my grandma), a dad six (or seven?) times over, a man who lived through the great radio and TV revolutions as an actor, an inspiration to thousands if not millions of engineers. Like Sampiro, I’m glad he was carred off by pneumonia (“The dying man’s friend”) before the Alzheimer’s totally destroyed him.
RIP to a fine man.
He also named Scotty for his two oldest sons (Monty and Scott).
He married Wendy when he was in his mid/late 50s and she was 17. This would be a good Trek novel or movie (maybe with Linday Lohan and Timothy Dalton) .
“…and that’s when you hit him.”
“AYE!”
Today we say farewell to Mr. Scot,
He kept the Enterprise from going to pot.
He spoke with a brogue,
And was a merry ol’ rogue
James, we’re going to miss you a lot.
R.I.P.
He was a gentleman who made a great living bringing joy and escape to millions upon millions of people, and he always appreciated his fans. His family loved him and he loved them back and he lived a long, prosperous and eventful life. What more could you ask of someone?
His passing is sad, but it’s certainly not tragic. He had a hell of a life.
Looks like Apollo came back for Scotty- now he’s among the gods.
(“Who Mourns for Adonais?”)
“Captain, there be whales here!”
Correct that Captain to Admiral- he hadn’t been busted yet…
Oh dammit, something just got in my eye.
Warp Speed, Mr. Scott.
Heh, you said that and the first thing I thought was Apollo from Battlestar Galactica, who I think briefly ascended to some higher plane later in the series. As opposed to Starbuck, who apparantly was supposed to ascend to that plane on a more permanent basis had they written two more eps of Galactica 1980.
ahem [/Geekout]
“Second star to the right, and straight on 'til morning” Goodbye, James Doohan, your legacy lives on.
“Excuse me… Excuse me… I just wanted to ask a question. What does God need with a starship?” (Star Trek V: The Final Frontier)
I don’t know, but apparently it needs to be fixed.
Rest well, Jimmy.
“where they’ll be no tribble a’tall.”
Rest in well-earned peace, old friend. You will live on in millions of hearts worldwide.
Fans always loved you, count me as a big one.
Rest somewhere green.
So long, Scotty…give Bones a big hug from us all.
A nice aulogy to him over on Websnark.
