C K Dexter Haven, Come on Down

10 Year After…isn’t that some hippie sixties pop band?

Well since no one’s gonna help me I did my own side-by-side comparison:

Megadeth:
*Rewrites every story, every poem that ever was.
Eliminates incompetence, and those who break the laws.
Follow the instructions of the New Ways’ Evil Book of Rules.
Replacing rights with wrongs, the files and records in the schools.

Chorus
F is for fighting, R is for red,

Ancestors’ blood in battles they’ve shed.
E, we elect them, E, we eject them,
In the land of the free, and the home of the brave.
D, for your dying, O, your overture,
M, they will cover your grave with manure.
This spells out freedom, it means nothing to me,
As long as there’s a P.M.R.C.*

Motorhead:
*If you squeeze my lizard
I’ll put my snake on you
I’m a romantic adventure
And I’m a reptile too

But it don’t make no difference
'cos I ain’t gonna be, easy, easy
the only time I’m easy’s when I’m
Killed by death
Killed by death
Killed by death*

Hmm. Motorhead is compelling, but a little nonsensical. Gotta go with Megadeth here. Meanwhile, I’m waiting for CK’s rebuttal…

Given the fact that restraint had been requested the quoted comment from C K Dexter Haven looks deliberately inflamatory. He is in a perfect position to understand the legitimate concerns that people have regarding private information that they may have entrusted to the administrators of this board and attempting to scoff those away by putting a % on the amount of private information that had been revealed (98% of what, for fucks sake?) is another lapse of judgement. Been too many of those round here recently.

I believe we should henceforth refer to this incident as The Troubles.

No prob.

I don’t agree, I think the concern is legit.
If the admins don’t all agree on the importance of the privacy clause, I think there’s a problem.

How 'bout Return to Forever.
As long as we’re going down memory lane mean.

I thought it was already euphemised as The Recent Unpleasantness.

I vote for Slipknot personally.

That aside, Reeder would make a great terroist. He’s got hijacking down pat.

Back to the OP. C K has shown a strong tendency of late (i’ve not paid any attention to him in the past to establish a long running pattern) of down playing stated SMDB policies. Including the new ones.

One last thought. Has anyone given any consideration on whats going to happen when the unnamed instigator of the “recent unplesantness” that we can’t talk about, perpetrated against the here-to-for never to be spoken of banned member, returns? I predict a flame-fest between the two sides and it’ll be ugly. Very ugly.

For the record, I was not the one who closed this thread. As an Administrator, I’m adding a comment after the thread was closed. Sorry, and tough.

I do want to make clear:

  • Yes, I understand that TubaDiva violated privacy policy and that it was a serious offense. I was asked to, and did, endorse the suspension.
  • I also understand that the extent of her violation was not huge. Of the mass of facts she revealed, all but one were publicly available to anyone who went looking. That doesn’t downplay the fact of her offense, but it does say that it was not as monumental as some people are yelling.
  • I have used the analogy of a cop who is over-zealous, and hits (say) a rape suspect during interrogatoin. The guilt or innocence of the suspect is not at issue, the cop has stepped over the bounds and deserves punishment. The question of what the punishment should be depends on lots of factors, but suspension is not uncommon.
  • I think that lots of people are equating the cop’s offense with the crime of the suspect. I find that highly offensive (intentional wordplay.) There are completely different orders of magnitude. I think that lots of people are thinking that the offense of a single cop is enough to condemn the entire structure of government. That seems to be overreacting.
  • The police chief has set forth a stricter policy for the future to prevent recurrences. That’s also reasonable and I agree entirely. We don’t know yet exactly what that means in terms of lots of Board policies, and it’s being worked on.
  • I have a long-running pattern of down-playing almost everything, and trying to add jokes, puns, satire, and humor to almost everything. That doesn’t mean I don’t understand the seriousness of the situation, it means that I prefer laughter to tears.
  • Let’s leave the question of what happens next month until next month, OK?
