CA Recall: unknown candidates are serious, it's the celebrities that are clowns

I used to regard this recall stuff as a freak show (well, when I wasn’t drunkenly considering running myself, over brewskis). Recently, however, I have been checking out some websites of the less well-known candidates, and I have found out: these people are serious! As well as intelligent, thoughtful, concerned and creative. (See, for instance, the websites and BLOGs of Georgy Russell and William Tsangares.) This description also applies to the citizen-candidates who are running mainly to publicize their anti-recall views. “Don’t vote for me!” Now, that’s the ideal candidate! How altruistic and selfless can you get??

It’s these unknowns who are putting Ahnold to shame. That’s Ahnold, the guy who is a front-runner because he’s famous, but can’t explain how to solve the state’s budget deficit, doesn’t like to take questions from reporters, and who voted for Prop. 187 but recently made a speech against it.

I don’t want the recall to win, nor do I want any of these candidates to “win.” However, I do agree with Tsangares that we may have found the next generation of leaders. I hope they run in another year.

To be fair, one major candidate is pretty damned serous (Arianna Huffington), as arguably is Scwharzenegger. Furthermore, I’m sure there are some minor candidates that aren’t serious per se, such as Robert Anton Wilson, who’s running as a write-in for the “Guns and Dope Party.”

Don’t you guys remember the last time as Austrian born male got himself into a position of political power in a foreign country he’d adopted as his home?

I recently read an interview with Larry Flynt and he seems to be pretty earnest in his plans.
