Caddyshack question

Mods, I know this is a straight forward answer, but it’s quite pointless (in any respect, it will sink once it’s answered):

I was watching Caddyshack last night, and was confused by the ending. They’re all on the 18th green, and the ref (Bill Murray’s brother - can’t remember his name) says that the game is all tied up, and these putts will settle it.

The doctor (on Judge Smail’s team) two-putts (or at least it is implied that he did, as he barely missed his first, and a two-putt is iminent.

Judge Smails calls upon Ole Billy Boru, and sinks his. Their team has three strokes.

Ty two putts.

Danny then (SPOILER  ) sinks his, with help from a few pyrotechniques. Ty and Danny have three.

Why is everyone excited? I realize that if Danny wouldn’t have made it, the judge would have won, but is it not a tie game right now? Three all? What’s the deal? I’ve been wondering about this for years.

If memory serves, which it rarely does, I believe they decided to go double up on Danny’s put.

Possibly. I’ll put it in when I go home for lunch break. Me and my roommate were watching for anything, and we didn’t notice that, but we are easily distracted. I do remember them doubling the bet as they were walking down the 18th fairway, but that could be the case as well. They did a lot of upping the bet.
