Caesin is not dairy free, you fuckers!

Stomp them femurs good.

BigT,

I don’t think you are trolling. I don’t think you have it in you. I just think you post stupid shit. And I think when you post it, you make yourself believe it. If I had the time or inclination I could refute most of your last post with numerous cites. But I don’t and won’t because I don’t hate you or want you banned. I don’t even respond to your dumb shit most of the time… I just read it and roll my eyes.

Truthfully though you can be a real dick sometimes. Your kumbaya posts usually float to the top like a turd in a punch bowl. Funny thing is, when someone else has a beef and bitches about it you start with your, ‘let’s be nicer to people’ crap. But when you need to blow off steam (like this thread) it’s OK to rail against some poor schlub who was probably trying his best to help given the convoluted version of what your mom was asking for based on your convoluted version of what’s ‘wrong’ with you.

It’s a message board. Stop fucking nanny-ing and stop trying to be miss manners. Sometimes spewing is just a relief valve or RO. Also, it would nice to have you back up your ‘opinions’ when challenged, and not just 7 months later.

As for the really dumb shit you post, well… that’s just you. The only thing that will help that is timely participation on your part and actually listening to those who are trying to fight your ignorance.

I disagree with the posters who say you are being bullied. You just don’t seem to learn your lesson and keep giving them ammunition.

Finally, and I really mean this, happy birthday.

I doubt he did it just to fuck with you, dude. He probably didn’t know there was a difference.

BTW, I forgot in all that to mention: I do understand you being a bit wary when someone just mentions Celiac’s out of the blue.

And I know that, Guin. It’s a health food store, though, and he’s paid to know that sort of stuff. He has books and everything that he pulls out when you show up and ask him a question.

Aaand, scene.

This changes things: the proprietor of a specialised food shop SHOULD bloody know what casein is. And, even if he didn’t, he has no excuse for not being able to read a label. From http://www.bestallergysites.com/food-allergen-labeling-law/

If a major allergen is in the food item, the ingredient label must list that allergen by common name in the ingredients, OR near the ingredients list the word contains and then the major allergen the food source is derived from. So an ingredient label could say: whey (milk) or whey and then Contains: milk after the ingredients list.

See also here: Warning labels

Whether you have an allergy or intolerance, federal regulations have mandated the labeling of allergens on processed food products. The 8 most common allergies account for 90% of all allergies in the US: Milk, Wheat/Gluten, Soy, Eggs, Peanuts, Tree Nuts, Fish, Shellfish. These 8 need to be clearly labeled when they are included in a product’s ingredients. for example:
CONTAINS: MILK, SOY

To those saying “but casein is something *derived *from milk, it is not *actually *milk.” Yes, casein is not milk, just as yoghurt is not milk, and butter is not milk, and ice cream is not milk. But for labelling purposes, the key word is “milk”, rather than the lengthier “anything that has been made with something coming from a cow’s udders.” This is why the package of “Sparx Popping Candy” that I’m looking at right now says clearly, in bold, This product contains milk even though the ingredients are listed as: Sugar, Glucose Syrup, Lactose, Flavourings, Carbon Dioxide.

So, rather than telling you to lie, what they actually told you was that you need to help the customer, presumably by telling them what they need to know, and actually expected you to know how to do your job. What bullies! What tyrants!

I’m sure where you work now is so much better, right?

Hey, that’s JohnClay’s shtick. Cutitout!

So…you’re deliberately being annoying to posters. Another admission of trolling.

:frowning:

I…don’t know if I can…go on. :frowning:

The guy was wrong. People are wrong occasionally. I’m not sure what the big deal is. The guy thought there was no dairy in the product. He doesn’t work for the company, he is not an expert, he probably has no idea that it contains a dairy protein.

You are acting like he maliciously set out to fool your mother.

I don’t know the history between Fenris and you, so take what I’m going to say with a grain of salt. Have you tried approaching his posts with love and a tender heart? Jesus didn’t ignore an angry mob - he faced them and through love and conviction he overcame. Offer him your other cheek.

Oh, that would be fun, I’d love to take a trip. But I don’t think his milk intolerance would allow for such fun pictures ^_-

Yes, I’m quite the Dairy cow. And I have well trimmed hooves!

This however, was more what I was thinking, though to be honest, some good old fashioned human on human milking would also give him serious issues too.

Of course… I could milk him instead. Maybe that would reduce his Caesin?

The people joining the pile-on for BigT are, in fact, bullies. That’s what it’s called when you kick a man who’s down. Yes, he’s annoying, yes a lot of us disagree with him, yes, he doesn’t always express himself well but as Paranoid Randroid pointed out this response is disproportionate.

And, as splatterpunk and beastly rotter were so eager to demonstrate anyone calling out the bullies is to be immediately attacked. One of the many tactics is to take one thing, preferably out of context and repeatedly beat the person over the head with it in an attempt to discredit that person, cut them out from the herd, isolate them, and send them running. It’s easy to name the item for each person because it’s been done so often: curlcoat’s napkin sandwiches, ZPGZealot’s handshake-is-rape, and so on. Even better, such items can’t help but bring back some painful and uncomfortable memory for the person involved. The result is that as soon as someone stands up and either tries to defend the victim or call out the bullies the bullies try to reduce that person to defending him or herself.

But you know what? There are still bullies in this thread who are making a fucking game out of how to make someone else feel bad. I’m calling you out. You’re bullies. It’s a goddamned poison on this forum which is supposed to have a “don’t be a jerk rule”. It’s sad that Ed Zotti tried to make the BBQ Pit a “nicer” place by banning certain language but all it did was make the bullies use prettier language.

This certainly isn’t the worst example (that had to be an epic thread targeting I have Hippos In My Garden which has since disappeared, thank Og) but what is done repeatedly around here is just disgusting and sadistic.

Absolutely. I like my current job. It’s nice to be treated as a human being. You might try treating other posters that way some time.

If he doesn’t, are you going to kung-fu him and shatter his femur?

Good natured ribbing is all well and good. But I suppose the question is:
Why is BigT in your opinion being targeted so harshly?

The guy made a mistake. It happens. The store doesn’t require a Phd to work there, does it? He’s not creating the supplements he stocks on the shelves is he?

I can see a little irritation. Sure, mistakes happen. You created a pit thread to complain about this. It obviously annoys you greatly.

What I can’t figure out is that if it annoys you this much, why don’t you just do the shopping?

Does that include breaking people’s legs if they flirt with me?

Yogurt, butter and ice cream all contain milk. The product mentioned in the OP does not.

I’m confused. Apparently the ingredients label listed caesin, but neither the OP nor his mother read that until after consuming the food. If I were avoiding dairy, I think I would check food labels (even after assurances by the store proprietor), particularly for traditionally milk-derived products like cheese.

Yeah, that’s the most puzzling thing in this rant. I’m fortunate enough not to have any allergies or foods that I’m avoiding for health reasons, but I read labels when it’s important for me. For example, I read the labels on barbecue sauces, because I want barbecue sauce without “natural smoke flavor.” (There are very few.) I have nothing against it, I just don’t want to put it on meat that’s been smoked. Or when I buy cream, I just want plain cream, not cream thickened with carageenan and guar gum or crap like that. Funny how most brands have that crap. I’m not avoiding those for health reasons, I just prefer plain ol’ cream.

Now, if you had health reasons to avoid any foods, why the heck wouldn’t you read the labels?

And I learned something from this thread. I knew casein was a milk protein, but I didn’t know that it was, by definition, “dairy.” I thought maybe it could be synthesized from non-dairy sources. And I didn’t realize people were specifically allergic to that when they were allergic to milk. I guess I was conflating it with lactose intolerance. Given the fact that ignorance like mine is out there, why would you trust an employee at a store over reading the actual label yourself?
