"Cafeteria school lunch" pizza from the 80's. Can an individual get this anywhere?

in the 70s in NC in junior high we had wonder bread topped with american cheese slice and a meat sauce.

In high school we got rectangular slices that were a little better.

Does anyone else remember the pizza crust having holes evenly spread throughout it? As if the dough were docked. I remember that distinctly.

I don’t have fond memories of elementary or intermediate school pizza at all, except in the sense that it was better than the hamburgers, chicken burgers, and hotdogs we would otherwise get. Tater tots were always awesome, though.

When I taught, the school I was at had that kind of pizza once a week. As a staff member, you could purchase a school lunch, and I always bought that pizza! LOL

I was going to say the same thing - the Totino’s Party Pizza is the closest thing I’ve seen. The important part is that the sausage isn’t in chunks; it’s ground up fine, and is listed in the ingredients as “pork topping”, not “sausage”.

Yes, I remember that. Pinholes every inch or so. Anyways I bought some Ellios last night. It has the wrong type of pepperoni (round), but I will report the results when I can. I’ll get some Totinos too probably.

Totino’s Party Pizza is my secret shame. I can’t say no to them, at all…

I love those things! That and spaghetti got me through the vast majority of my 20s.

They definitely shrunk significantly at one point; they used to fill the box but suddenly one day there was a lot of wiggle room in there, and now they’re rectangular pizzas packaged in a bag. I sort of prefer them to be round, but they still taste the same.

You can’t argue taste, but I would say melt anything from Wisconsin over a crust of old bread with some bifi salami and spam and you should relive your childhood culinary highlights.

I didn’t care for school pizza all that much back then (Orlando’s, the local storefront pizzeria, was much more to my liking), but Hostess fruit pies were the absolute gold standard when it came to lunchtime trading. Man, you could anything for a HFP.

I loved it. At my school we had “pizza” and then we had “tostadas” which was just the pizza with leftover taco meat instead of the sausage or pepperoni.

I remember the first time I ordered a tostada at a Mexican restaurant… it was the WORST!
