Cake and Cashmere (Or Not) - A Crafty MMP

Here I am, but none of you are up to see it. It is currently 1:16 in the a.m. here.

This week has been busy, busy, busy.

I know I’m late, but

HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY GT!

I had today off, being a gummint slave and all. Did I accomplish anything? Hell no! It was a very wet, windy day here. Perfect weather for slouching on the couch and napping. That’s what I did, too. People are still flooded out in many areas around here. It’s really sad to see someone’s house being carried off by a river. There were many homes swept away by the various rivers that flooded here. Fortunately for us, nothing has happened to our home. I am counting my blessings.

I made a turkey breast for din-din and some mashed taters and gravy to accompany said turkey breast. I spaced on veggies though. Oh, well.

Tomorrow, we’ll drive in to Tacoma to pick up a grocery list from MIL and buy some groceries for her. After buying said groceries, we’ll stay for awhile and cook some dinner for her too.

I did stay with MIL Monday night and all day Tuesday. She is doing better. On Tuesday, she needs to go see the doctor about her heart. The doctor’s office called and asked her to come in. While she was in surgery, her heart did a couple of wonky things, and they’re concerned. It’s part of the reason she spent a few days in the PCU.

I returned to work on Wednesday and discovered they had loaded a new program on my 'puter. They finally installed MapPoint, but now I need to learn how to use it properly. It shouldn’t be difficult, but I haven’t quite figured how to do what I need it to do.

I’m doing my usual once a year, worry-wart game over my annual performance appraisal. New boss and all, and I’m worried that he won’t consider me up to snuff. I wish he and my senior rater would just hurry the hell up and get it done!
I know I work hard and I’ve done everything I should be doing, but I always worry that the boss won’t think it’s enough. I’m conscientious and probably pretty anal about some stuff. I try and do stuff right the FIRST time. I’m not an 80% percent solution kind of gal. I want 100%. Call me nit-picky, but this is how I am at work.

I’ve missed you guys this week. I hope all is going well for everyone.

Belated happies, GT!

Thanks for keeping me entertained this week, I’ve barely been out of bed the last three days…am finally feeling like I might venture towards the outside world today. OK, so I’m almost out of medication and the pharmacy is at the bottom of the street so it’s not like I’m going very far…

Well, of course! *Anything * for you!

Or not - I might change my mind tomorrow. :stuck_out_tongue: Still when you get close, if you’re still interested in that career track, stay in touch. I may be able to offer some advice that won’t suck too bad. Because that’s my motto: Offer advice that doesn’t suck too bad.

Awake and achy - assembling the leaf sucker thing really kicked my back and my legs along with my butt. Although I am moving a bit better now than when I dragged myself out of bed, so there’s that. And I’ll be leaving for class in a few minutes - that’s always theraputic.

Yay for all the sickies who are getting better! Don’t get too close to me - I’m a bit snuffly myself. And Happy Saturday, all! Gonna be a purty day today till the front comes thru and steals the mildness tonight. Hope all y’all have purtiness where you live!

MWAH!

Good morning and another round of thank yous for all the birthday wishes.

Glad to see you back, Taters. I thought about you when I read about the flooding. Glad your home is OK. How close was the flooding to you? I’ll keep MIL and her heart in my thoughts and prayers (she really doesn’t need more complications, does she?).

Magic is not a freak; he’s a gourmet.

Glad you’re feeling better, Scarie.

Fashion show looks like it was lots of fun, rosie. Nice pics.

I’ve read through the blog thread and looked at a few blogs this morning. There are some really interesting people here (not a news flash, I know, but it’s interesting to read more about people than you get out of occasional threads).

Spent a while last night surfing for a new cell phone. Any recommendations or anti-recommendations? There are several models on the Cingular web site that might be acceptable. Also went out to look at comments on Amazon. I’ll probably do more digging today, although it looks like they’re going to force me to change my plan when I re-up, so I might be delaying my purchase… (Existing phone isn’t that annoying.)

Well, gotta get the place cleaned up a bit and have some breakfast.

Back after a while, I’m sure.

Happy Saturday morning!

GT

Hi, all. I’ve been busy this week, out of town a couple days so got hopelessly behind before I even started, and since then have been feeling somewhat like the hamsters on their little treadmills, running endlessly in place trying to keep up. So happy birthday/congrats/get well/I’m sorry/etc. as appropriate to all who deserve it.

And this weekend doesn’t look to get much better, so I’ll just toddle off and be a good girl again now. I’ll try to get back for more chatting next week. It’s too pretty a day to just sit here at my computer all day, so I’m going to try to enjoy what will probably be our last day really warm day of 2006!

Happy Birthday, GT and BiblioCat

(getting ahead with the good wishes re BC).
It’s Saturday–and all our nice weather disappeared midday yesterday. For awhile, it seemed like god was throwing buckets of water against the windows at work, it rained that hard. It’s chilly now, but no snow.
Need to finish cleaning out my flower beds, write two smallish assignments and figure out why o why my web page assignment cannot be read by the people it needs to get to…
I do so want to learn to knit–I will take lessons soon. I am limited in my ability to learn more than 10 new things at a time, though…and having no time at present.

So, what do you all want for Christmas/Hannukah/Kwanzaa/Insert Winter Holiday that I have overlooked here?

And swampus --your story tickled me. I so want to add food coloring to rice now! I may make rice tonight, just to do so…

gt - re the cell phone - those phones, when purchased separately from a cell company’s plan, are usually quite expensive. My little LG that I got a little over two years ago was over $150, but with Verizon’s plan upgrade and a two year committment (which didn’t bother me because I had no intention of leaving them) it only cost $20. So talk to Cingular and get all the fine print data before you decide on a phone - and shop around the other cell companies and see if their deals are better for your purposes. I heard somewhere that you may not have to switch cell phone numbers if you switch networks, but that may only be in my area.

rigs - as for what I want for Hanukkah this year? anyone who wants to could get me something green and wrinkly, it only comes in one size, it’s made of paper, and it comes with a choice of portraits of past politcal dignitaries, usually presidents, but the ones I want feature a statesman of great talent and humor, who was never actually a president. I’ll take as many of those as any of you care to send me. and I promise I won’t try to exchange. . . well, actually I will be exchanging them for goods and/or services, because that’s what they’re for. :D:D:D:D

Happy belated BD, GT!

All you people talking about pierogies got me hungry for some, so last night the wife wanted takeout, so we ordered Swiss Chalet. I’m not big on their food anymore, but I do like their pierogies, so I ordered some for me. And some wings. Yeah, I’m weird. They forgot the large order of chalet sauce though, and there was a mysterious side order of cole slaw where there shouldn’t have been, so she called and complained about the sauce and they put a $6 credit on our account, which was kinda cool of them. The pierogies were good. A wee bit spiced up and baked which made them kinda crispy, which was really nice. And just how do you spell that, anyway? I always used “perogies,” but it’s common here apparently to use “pierogies,” and Firefox suggests “pirogies.”

Company just arrived, so gotta wrap it up for a moment.

T - H - A - T.
oh, you mean those filled dough things? I spell them “k-r-e-p-l-a-c-h”

The pics are jake rosie!

rigs I live to provide comic relief.

I’m at work. I’m taking a break from the detrashing of my office/last minute taking care of details before the dreaded survey begins Monday. I have my box o’ serious and professional stuff ready to take and leave at the hotel. I figure a couple more hours and I’ma go home and have some beerverages and just chill.

Good morning, nearly afternoon.I have had my coffee, cleaned the litter box, and taken out the trash. There’s a bunch of beer cans out side my front door. Which means A. somebody had a party at my place and didn’t invite me and B. Maggie Wonderbeagle is completely, utterly useless as a watch dog.

I’d vote for (a), DB. My SIL has a beagle and that silly dog will bark at a change in air pressure.

I hate being awakened by the phone, only to have it be a wrong number.

It is officially afternoon now - the 12:00 Saturday Civil Defense siren test has gone off, sending the occupants of the cat suite into a frenzy.

I do not feel like being productive, but there are things around here that need to be done.

Home from class, poke roastin’ in the oven under a blanket of honey-mustard BBQ sauce. I’m wanting it to roast till it falls apart, then I’ll shred it for a big pile o’BBQ. I need to get myself something to eat, then I’m heading out to mulch some leaves.

Remember how yesterday we did the front lawn? Well, you can’t hardly tell, what with all the leaves that fell again. Stoopit leaves. I’d be angrier if I’d raked by hand, so at least there’s that.

Gorgeous day - house is open to allow in the last of the fresh air of 2006 - you got that right, Mama Tiger! So I’ll go out and mulch a while, then come in and do laundry and run the vacuum and empty the dishwasher. Something about a beautimous day that makes me feel ambitious. Fortunately, it’s supposed to rain tonight, so this feeling will pass.

Later!

I have de-leafed most of the back yard - at least the part that has been known to sprout lawn. I figure by morning, it’ll be leafed over again. I’ve also cleared out part of the garage so we can put the new leaf cart in there, since the shed is too small for a mower and a cart. FCD is still at the boat - I hope he gets home soon. It’s too quiet here. Plus I’m not strong enough to lift the cart hitch off the mower.

If there’s a break in the rain tomorrow, we’ll make a trash/recycle run. I plan a fun day of laundry and playing with glaze. Still haven’t pulled out the vacuum, but I’m pretty sure I will - the carpet is kinda icky looking. And I need a shower - I’m definitely icky looking. And sweaty. And dusty.

Guess it’s my own fault for not giving birth to half a dozen sons who love yard work, eh?

I got ambitious and cleaned the ceiling fan in the kitchen - the one that gets all nasty with grease? Ick. Now it’s all shiny white again!

Got confirmation from the niece for Thanksgiving, they’re all coming. So dinner for 8… 9 if my son brings a guest. I can tell I’m planning too much food.

It is an absolutely gorgeous day here. A front came through last night and blew out all the hot humid air, and we’ve got a high of 70° and no humidity. The house is wide open! Screw the flies. Lucy’ll catch 'em! (Hubby is working on the sliding glass door, so no screen in place.)

We’re having homemade pizza for dinner - except using a Boboli crust.

Happy Saturday! And isn’t it Biblio’s birthday? Happy Birthday!

Mmm. I haven’t had Bastard Poutine, made with Swiss Chalet fries and Chalet sauce, in months. Now I want it.

Happy Remembrance Day, everyone. Mindfield, are you wearing a poppy?
gt, you’ll keep me informed about your book club’s progress? I’m halfway through Housekeeping (same author) and it’s beautiful, too. I haven’t fallen head-over-heels in the same way that I did with Gilead, but I think she’s incapable of writing anything that isn’t stunningly beautiful.

QD, Mr. Lissar, and I are all sick with colds, and QD’s coming over to watch Firefly, eat soup, and organize the big freezer. I think there will be much lying around drinking tea. I’m on on the mend, QD’s in the middle, and Mr. Lissar is just catching it.

I have a blog, but it’s mostly a reading list/houswork list/series of rants. Not very interesting. A lot of my friends read it (most notably Driving Husband, Lazy Husband, and Attacks Husband).

I’ve been pretty much of a slug today. Read for a while. Surfed a bit. Took a nap. Not much more to report.

I’m considering uploading some pictures to Snapfish to be printed for mom. (Our high school class reunion pics were there and they have a really good deal on prints; need to get a metric butt-load of pictures printed, so I’m thinking this will be the best way to do it…)

Also, I’m considering which movie/show to watch tonight while uploading pics.

Of course I’ll keep you updated on Gilead, LiLi! A couple of the women in my book club have already read it and loved it. We don’t meet again till mid-December, but I’ve already ordered it from the library. Should have it Monday or Tuesday.

I’m currently blog-free (unless you count the MMP), although I’ve considered it since it would be a good way to have far-away friends and family keep up with my entrancing life. I think it would be especially good for far-away best friend’s kids (it would give them something from real life to read in English and maybe give them a bit of encouragement to write). Maybe when my work life gets less annoying.

Think I’ll continue reading my mystery for a bit (Hundred-Dollar Baby by Robert B. Parker) then do something semi-productive.

GT

Actually Bibkitty’s birthday is Thanksgiving Day. Reading comprehension is our friend. :stuck_out_tongue:

I finished up stuff at work at about 1:30 this afternoon. Ok, I brought some stuff home and worked on it a bit and still need to do a bit more, but I can do it whilst sittin’ in front of home puter so that’s all good. I’ve also had several beervreages, so I blame all typos on that.

We’re awaiting pizza delivery at the swampcave. The best part is I ain’t payin’ for it. What? That does not make me cheap, I’m simply allowing ACBG to spoil me as well he should. After all, it’s him (he?) that got lucky and got such a catch.

It’s warm here. I opened up the windows in dacave and am actually sittin’ here in shorts and a tshirt. Tomorrow promises to be the same way. However, rain is in the forecast. Warm rain. Which is ok, I guess.

I’ve spent my day napping, sitting around and napping. Recovering actually, I’ll fill in details later - soon as I get the rice off the stove and warm some chicken for dinner.

Of course. Well, not right now, it’s on my big puffy coat. I was talking about Remembrance Day with one of my cow-orkers and we were lamenting the fact that it’s almost disappeared from schools these days. When I was a boy (“When I was a boy … like I’m an armadillo, now.” -George Carlin) we’d have an hour-long assembly with films about the war and such, and the minute of silence and all that. Now it seems like every school just does the moment of silence and doesn’t organize any sort of memorial function or do much in the way of teaching the kids about what it’s all about beyond the basics.
