I’ve found that it makes cakes weirdly soggy. If I don’t eat it in two or three days, I’d toss it. But I can’t even remember the last time I ate cake.
I understand each individual word, but the sentence makes NO SENSE
We’ve always tended to leave cakes out. The 6 day part is what I don’t grok!!
If we have put a real buttercream frosting on it, I might refrigerate it (which of course makes slicing a problem, as the frosting gets hard). And as noted, if it’s got a perishable filling.
Otherwise, leave it at room temp. You could also consider slicing and individually wrapping chunks and tossing them in the freezer. I’ve been known to do that, but with 4 people in the house, it’s not been an issue.
And dammit, now I want cake!
What? Melted all over your hand???
We stopped at a convenience store a few months back, and in their refrigerated section, they had Reese’s Cups. My friend and I looked at each other and knew we had to endorse this practice. Frozen? not so much. Cool enough to survive being unwrapped? That’s damn near perfection.
Its a 9 x 9. It takes me, all by myself, 5-6 days to eat it. You want I should scarf half down in a day?
Would that I could.
I kinda hate you now😉
You can’t have sugar free?
Not worth it. It tastes bad, causes pseudo effect and hurts my tummy.
You’re not missing much. There is Nothing I like more than a ripe tomato with salt.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want ‘em when they’re soup, and I certainly wouldn’t turn down a refrigerated Reese’s. But numerous experiments have proven that room temperature is maximum yumminess, so I have science on my side.
And, no, I won’t provide a cite. It’s common knowledge for Pete’s sake.
Mmmmm, and a splash of good balsamic vinegar.
Especially the REALLY good balsamic. We were gifted a bottle of it by a visiting student from Italy- the stuff that is aged so long it’s nearly syrupy in the bottle. We made that last for years, a drop at a time. A few years later, a friend saw that the bottle was nearly empty, and did some very good sleuthing (she called the Italian embassy and asked to speak to the head chef!) to find out how / where to get something of that quality. I cracked her up when she gave it to me, by trying (and mostly succeeding) to translate the box’s labelling into English. “Just like a toddler. You give them a toy and they just want to play with the box!”.
Now I want good tomatoes. A garden center near here, that also has a produce market, is advertising peaches (and they have good tomatoes, and good bread). I think a trip is in my future.
I still want cake though.
I actually won’t argue that. But it’s tough to get that fine line between room temp and soup, so I’d tend to err on the side of cooler. Plus, it warms up quickly in the mouth, unless you’re actually dealing with frozen ones, so it’s a self-correcting problem
Not that I’d refuse a frozen one, especially if it’s frozen or none!
So a slice is gonna be maybe a 3x3 square. A slice for lunch, one for dinner, one for breakfast… gone in 3 days!
What? You have self control??? Amateur!!! LOL.
I freeze gummy bears.
To un-hijack … do we think that the OP’s cake is unfrosted makes any difference for storage?
We freeze grapes. Remove them from their stems, was and air dry. Place in Tupperware. Freeze.
Never had a problem with it in years of being a pastry/dessert chef. Everything aways well-wrapped.
Actually, there’s a bakery counter I sometimes go to and every time I’ve ever had a slice of their cake, it tastes like a refrigerator. They’re doing something very wrong.
Frozen grapes are great on a hot summer day.
Why? I learned the hard way not to get gummies as a mix-in at Coldstone’s unless I’m going to eat it right away. Even one night in my freezer turns the gummies to marble. The ice cream could be soup and the gummies will still be too stiff to chew.
Frozen cake? Hm.
I don’t think it will go bad during the 5 days it lasts. Its not hot in my apartment.
Yesssss!!
I raise you Icy peach slices
The Best!
Just now getting first peaches off the trees.
I like to slice and freeze cake in Ziploc freezer bags. (they’re thicker than the sandwich bags)
Thaws quickly when I’m ready for it.
Serve with a scoop of Vanilla ice cream. It adds moisture when the cake is a little dry.
