Does anyone know a way to get all the GPS coordinates of all the California Historical Landmarks?
Or perhaps finding individual counties with all the landmarks pinpointed in Google maps so I can export them? In any case, any amount of automation would be helpful.
I’m a little surprised that I don’t find a shapefile of them anywhere. Your best bet might be to aggregate a listing county by county, then let Google Fusion Tables do the geocoding. Because it makes use of Google’s indexing, it’s remarkably good at geocoding even without a street address.
Thanks. It’s too bad that I don’t know what shapefiles are or what Google Fusion Tables does. I’ll look into it though. I see some interesting databases that contain spatial coordinates for points of interest. I’ll probably just start consolidating stuff county by county and see how that works out.
For what it’s worth, I found this interesting site which has the geographical coordinates of a bunch of places, including California Historical Landmarks.
