I want to play this game, my husband instead put other games on top of our gamefly list and then went out and bought Mass Effect. Hopefully it will come from gamefly soon.
You let your 6 year old play a Mature rated game?
Nice
I let him play this one. It’s a thing called parental discretion.
But thanks for your concern.
What part of your discretion tells you that this game more suitable than other M rated games?
I’m not trying to battle you here. I truly want to know.
What part of having an internet connection tells you that you’re qualified to raise other people’s children?
I don’t play a lot of M rated games, so I cannot really compare it to others.
I do see very little difference between this version of Call of Duty and the previous ones in terms of content. The only differences I can discern are that there are sometimes blood spatters left on the wall behind people, and that the single player version includes the words “shit,” “hell” and “ass”, if I recall correctly.
But, I wonder if you can tell me what it is about my son’s behaviors that gives you the greatest concern? Have you noticed any changes between what he was like before and now? Has he begun to express less empathy towards others, do you think? He’s not aggressive towards others, as you know, but is there something that you have noticed lately?
I mean, I tried to gauge his ability to handle things appropriately prior to letting him play, to watch his behavior during the games, and to keep an eye on how things go at school and during other activities, but you do let me know if you see anything untoward going on.
I’ve always assumed that the different platforms cannot play together online. Is this accurate?
Yeah. Screw that ratings crap. It’s only for show.
And I’m not interested in raising other peoples children. I count on them to raise their own well enough that they don’t go guns blazing into my kids school.
Actually I don’t necessarily believe that violent video games result in violent kids most of the time, but I think that poor decision making on the part of parents over the little things that are easier to control (video games, movies etc…) bodes badly for the future when the harder things come along (drugs, guns sex etc…).
A 10 year old playing CoD would raise eyebrows but a 6 year old? C’mon dude. You can’t seriously think no one is going to call you out on that.
So wait, you are calling me out on that, or you are not calling me out on that?
Furthermore, you are suggesting that Call of Duty will not result in violence, but will result in drugs, guns and sex?
I’m having a hard time following what your criticism is here, and what evidence you have for making it.
Your assumptions are correct.
Look man, I’m not going to get baited into some drawn out debate here. If you can’t understand why someone would question your advocating your 6 year old playing a Mature rated game with ultra realistic sounds and graphics of various people getting shot and blown up then there is nothing I can do to explain it to you.
Maybe I’ll send you my copy of Manhunt 2 when I’m done with it so he will have something else to play now that he’s beaten CoD4.
To be clear, I’m not advocating anything. I made a determination, based on my knowledge of my son, his behavior, his temperament and his personality, as well as my knowledge of the game, that it would be acceptable for him to play. So far, that decision, and my other decisions about what is best for my son have been fine. Given the experiences I have had with my 12 year old as well, I hope that my 6 year old ends up doing nearly as well as he has.
I do not advocate this game for children, but I do encourage parents to make decisions about what is best for their children and then to monitor and evaluate the outcomes of those decisions, helping their children to deal with any particularly troubling experiences.
I don’t know anything about Manhunt 2, but it sounds like you simply needed to make a snippy little bit of snark as a throwaway line because you haven’t got anything more substantive to argue in support of your decision to be a jerk here.
Finally, I’m not baiting anyone - you chose the manner and time to bring up your… thoughts … on the subject. It isn’t my fault if you cannot support them.
Okay, I got this game last night and I have to say that though the single player experience may be short (I think I’m halfwy through in about 3 hours) it is easily the most intense, satisfying FPS I’ve ever played. I’ve always been a Ghost Recon buff and this game blows it away. It is like playing in a movie but it’s not TOO linear and you can choose different ways to attack the same objective.
There is suprise after suprise so far for me but I’m not going to spoil the great story. I will say that I think that the AC-130 piece mentioned above should be spoiler boxed as it was my favorite, unexpected extra piece so far. VERY well done and quite believable
and
no way in hell am I letting my 8 year old play this game.
On Veteran difficulty, this game is a bitch. It’s hard, which is one thing, but it’s also made artificially hard in addition to that. For example, the fight in the control room (level 3?) is a pain in the ass. If you hang back and shoot the bad guys, they just trot more bad guys in until you personally take the checkpoints. Of course, you can just have bad timing and take the latter checkpoints when the new wave of bad guys come in. They also trot in more grunts if yours die too.
A couple stages later, when you have to take the attack helicopter out with the Stinger, it’s a bitch to get to that barn. That helicopter tears you apart if you go out in the open. Not very fun at all.
I’m having a problem now and I’m hoping someone here who is playing this can help me. On the Safehouse mission (#10 I think?) where you storm the village with the SAS to find Al-Asad I clear every building except the last one but nothing happens. Capt Price just stands in a storm drain and nothing I do gets them to storm the last house, which is buttoned up so I can’t get in on my own. I can shoot through the walls and hear guys screaming inside from being shot and I can look through the windows and see the guys standing inside so I know it’s the last house but the final scene or whatever will not trigger no matter what I do. I thought maybe it was bugged so I started that level over and went through the houses in a different order and the same thing happened when I left a different house till the end!!
This game is great but hitting this wall has left me sour and taken the wind out of my sails. What am I doing wrong? That level is very long and difficult and I really don’t want to play through a 3rd time just to find out that the same thing is going to happen.
Anyone?
You have nothing to defend- its a freaking video game. Its not real, no matter how real the graphics. I’m 100% with you on this, and have bought all the Grand Theft Autos, True Crimes, Dooms, Halos, etc. for kids that young, and none of them have killed anyone yet.
Is that the one where you have the luxury of calling in helicopter strikes? If so, I’m trudging through that one right now. Pain in my ass for sure, and definitely unnecessary difficulty there.
This mission is a little screwy compared to the rest. Are you sure there are no more houses left? You only know a house is clear when you hear Gaz announce that it is clear. After you clear all the houses you need to head up to the farm house.
I appreciate that. I just wish that Cubsfan would man up and be straight about whether he is or is not calling me on it, baiting me, or whatever. Putting a little jab in a spoiler tag is, well, not something that Soap McTavish would ever do.
I did see a “cubsfan” playing COD4 on-line recently. I wondered if they were one in the same, but there’s probably quite a few out there with handles like that.
