Calling a Starbucks order

Is there a specific sequence that they call components of an order? When I give my order they always call it in a different sequence. But I haven’t made a study of it to figure out if they’re consistent or if there is a specific method to this.

I usually have one of two things: Tall double decaf latte, or grande decaf iced mocha. My wife usually gets a tall decaf soy mocha no whip.

How would a cashista properly call these orders to the barista? Or is it arbitrary?

The order generally follows the order of the boxes on the side of the cup, with “iced” coming first if applicable, and the cup size coming after the “shots” box. So your drinks would usually be called a decaf double tall latte or a iced decaf grande mocha. Your wife’s drink would be a decaf tall soy no-whip mocha.

At least, that was the order when I worked there ten years ago. And baristas will sometimes change it if a different order rolls better off the tongue (or if they’re slackers about official procedures).
