Seeing as how I commute almost every day from Brighton to Hingham on Rt.3(sometimes I ride my bike to the commuter boat), there is always plenty of time to look around and take in the scenery because traffic is rarely moving faster than .0000000000000001 mph. Anyways, there is a huge triangle shaped billboard with an Apple Computer Co. advertisement. On each side is a person who dared to “Think Different”. One of 'em is Martin Luther King Jr. Another I believe is a woman(I recognize her, but the name escapes me right now), and then there’s another older gentleman with a microphone in front of him with “CBS” on it. I have no idea who this guy is. I’m probably the only person who doesn’t know who he is so could somebody please enlighten me? I’d be too embarrassed to ask one of my friends because I’m afraid I’d get the, “You don’t know who THAT is? Do you live in a cave or something?” response.
Thanks in advance,
Van
Since I haven’t seen the billboard in question, I’ll take a wild guess it’s either Walter Cronkite or Edward R. Murrow (was he CBS?)
Sorry, I was hoping your question was something about the highway itself. I used to ride 93 every day, but that was 6 years ago.
–sublight.
I don’t use Route 3, but there’s a similar set of ads on 93 south of the city. I think the woman in that one is Eleanor Roosevelt. I suspect the man you refer to is Edward R. Murrow.
Sorry about the hijack, but speaking of Hingham, what happened to Bldg. 19? I used to work there many years ago and when I went to go there in March it was gone. Are other Bldg 19s still open? I loved that place, I even got to meet Jerry and the illustrator.
DanBlather,
I’m not sure what happened to Bldg. 19, although a co-worker thinks they “dissolved it because their lease was up”. I know there’s another one on the other side of town, but dont ask me where. I’ve worked here over a year and I really only know rt. 3A.
How rude of me… Thanks Cal and sublight for the info.
How rude of me… I forgot to Cal and sublight for the info.
Thanks
Building 19 (and 1/12) is still alive and well down here in Swansea. Has been since Stuarts went out of business oh, 7, 8 years ago(?).
Rt 3? Been dodging those snipers lately?
The nipers are on Route 3 South. He’s talking about route 3 North of 128, where there aren’t any snipers (yet) .
There’s a Building 19 in the old Assembly Square Mall on Route 28 where it goes under 93. I think there’s one on Route 1A in Lynn, too.
Ask and ye shall receive. The Building 19 History site says the Hingham location is now the corporate offices and advertising department. Hey, Jerry Ellis must have a few more gnomes cranking out the little cartoons for the Sunday supplements, huh?
The Burlington store seems to be the biggest, but the Lynn outlet seems to be the grubbiest IMHO.
Um, a commute from Brighton to Hingham would take one along Route 3 south of Boston, not north of it. Don’t mention the snipers, though - they might get ideas.
