Calvin and Hobbes... complete archives?

When I began to travel to the third world in the 80’s, getting totally addicted to it, my friends could not understand the appeal.

My favorite C & H appeared about this time.

Calvin is doing Show and Tell in front of his class;

1." For Show and Tell I brought a little toy airplane…

  1. It’s sort of ordinary, I suppose, but I like having it around…

  2. It reminds me that as soon as I save a little more money, I’ll buy a ticket and put so much distance between you chumps and me, (sweeping gesture)…it will boggle your minds!"

  3. (Before the principals desk, hands on hips) “It’s not an attitude, it’s a FACT !!”

I have posted this comic, which I still have, on every bulletin board I’ve owned, and it’s the only thing that stays whenever the board is cleared for a fresh start!

Not so helpful…:frowning:

Yep, it’s good to see that even after all these years, Calvin & Hobbes is still alive.

(…or possibly not. )

Well, there’s always fanfic and insane fan theories. I suspect Calvin would approve.

Those are some good Theories. Is it bad that I knew who Mr.Bun was, with out the explanation? I wouldn’t write off the Furry theory either. (Says the user with a Disney Raccoon name.) - But the Tyler Durden one takes the cake.

Here is a theory I have always had. I wonder if anyone else wonders this ::

I hate to admit it, and I like Calvin a lot, but my mind goes to one specific place with an older Calvin. I am drawn there, because I can’t shake off the idea that it would probably happen.

Calvin calls up Angelica [Rugrats]. [[The Age difference would work, if both are accelerated in tandem.]]

Suffice to say Angelica knew exactly what she wanted to be when she grew up, and she is quite good at it.She can find a lot of boys to call her Ms.Pickles if they are nasty. And they pay her for the service.

I consider myself one of the biggest Calvin and Hobbes fans on the planet (it’s the source of my user name, in fact).

Fromthis article mentioned upthread - I will be buying books and books of these stamps.

Here’s a website I’ve got bookmarked that describes all the legitimate artifacts of Calvin and Hobbes - lithographs, proof sheets, two calendars, and other rare items.

“Who wrote ‘Help I’m a bug!’ on my letter to Grandma?”

“Evidently some bug. How strange.”

Based on :

Calvin discovers a creek near his house, and he decides that since he found it, he can name it, only to discover that Hobbes got there first?

yes?

Just dropping in to say, the printed complete archive is so great.

One of my favorite purchases ever. I’ve read through it like 7 times. I still laugh hard.

It’s held up surprisingly well, considering C&H began 24 years ago and ended after a decade. Plus I was only six when it started, so it’s not like some of the crap boomer comics that are treasured only for nostalgia. C&H is magnificiently hilarious.

The first strips are a bit rough, but that’s to be expected for any series. Once Watterson hit his stride (and it didn’t take more than a year or two) they’re all solid gold. Funny, subversive, beautifully drawn.

It’s funny to damn and bless an artist in the same sentence; Damn Watterson for not doing more, God bless him for quitting at his peak.

He walked away from C&H at its apex. That takes guts and honesty. I respect him for that. I just wish there was more.

Keep in mind that if you do, you’ll also have books and books of Archie, Garfield, Beetle Bailey, and Dennis the Menace stamps as well- they’re being honored on the set alongside Calvin and Hobbes.

Thanks in part to the Martell book, thanks in part to a reference I made to a friend, I’ve started to rediscover Calvin and Hobbes. I’ve always loved it, but I think I’m appreciating Watterson’s humor and genius now more than ever.
