I don’t get it. Another guy drew some Calvin and Hobbes. Right?
Wishful thinking.
The real Calvin and Hobbes would have been funny.
Meta-comic political commentary mixed with pointed nostalgia-bombing.
Translation: trolling for pageviews.
The return of Calvin and Hobbes would be heralded across the Internet. So this ain’t it.
That’s what it looks like. But wouldn’t copyright rights preclude a serious venture like this without permission? Or is this just enough parody to be considered “fair use”?
Yeah that’s what I thought too… but that is the closest drawn tribute I’ve ever seen, then.
It’s also from 2012. This may not be breaking news.
It’s from “makebelievecomics”. Pretend the strip’s returning.
I am pretty sick of people abusing the word ‘troll’. It’s a bit of a stunt I guess but no more ‘trolling’ than any other crossover or guest appearance. Little surprised the op here fell for it so hard, however.
I’m wondering if he doctored up an old strip.
My fav fan effort is Bacon and Hobbes, wherein Calvin apparently married his nemesis Susie Derkins, and they had a girl named Bacon (continuing the philosopher theme). Edit: there’s also the apparently ongoing Calvin and Company fan art, where Calvin married and had two kids. These aren’t as good, but some are great fun, especially the snowmen efforts.
I think the word “trolling” is being used as in fishing, not under-the-bridge. To throw out a drifting hook and try to catch something.

Would you prefer “trawling” or “fishing” instead?
Trolling. (I grew up on the coast - “trolling for x” is a fishing analogy, rather than a reference to individuals who reside under bridges and eat children (and goats) or who haunt message boards and hurl epithets.)
And I do see this as a pretty straightforward use of a specifically-selected intellectual property (bait) to draw attention from web-surfers (fish). They reference the quality of the bait in the comic itself - it’s not like they’re being coy about what they’re after.
Lasciel - I’ve got your back.

I’m sure he did. I recognize some of the pictures and poses.
OK, that makes way more sense.
All I know is that I’m enjoying the heck out of Calvin and Muad’Dib:
http://io9.com/calvin-hobbes-and-dune-is-a-surprisingly-great-combin-1316931820*What happens when you blend the reflective comics of Bill Watterson with the philosophy of the Dune books? Calvin & Muad’Dib, two great tastes that are wonderfully odd together. *
FTR, it looks like Calvin married Susie Derkins in Calvin and Company too. And to continue the philosopher theme, their twins are named Camus and Simone. It seems there having budgetary issues and Calvin will be having an election to see which child he keeps.
