Calvin's snowmen

Collected here. Good for a smile, desperately needed as this lousy winter drags on.

Best. Comic. Strip. Evah.

Hah, a nice collection of scenes. I always liked the Snowman House of Horrors.

Even better is Calvin & Muad’Dib. The link goes to a snowman-related comic.

I remember once when I was in high school my friend and I were bored so we walked up to the school and built two Calvinesque snowmen: she did a two-headed alien, and I made one with arrows sticking out of its chest. Good times.

Thanks for this!

Moved MPSIMS --> Cafe Society.

No Comic Strip has ever been as flat out great as Calvin & Hobbes.

I went to college with a student who graduated from the same high school Bill Watterson had, a few years earlier. Their mascot was a tiger. The yearbook had proto-Hobbes drawn all through, as Bill was on the yearbook committee. Very cool.

Pics?

Sorry- last I saw Erik was when he graduated in 1988, so I can’t ask him if he has any. The Wikipedia article mentions he contributed to his yearbooks, but also don’t have any pics.

Calvin was a copycat.

Or Linus is Calvin’s dad.

Bloom County was better, in my opinion.

That explains much…

Pogo.

So Rerun is Uncle Max?

C&H was great, but there are several that are higher on my list. But comics are my life.

Peanuts, definitely. Milton Caniff’s Terry and the Pirates and Steve Canyon. Krazy Kat. Probably Li’l Abner and Pogo, and maybe On Stage. The Far Side and early Dick Tracy and Thimble Theatre (Popeye) are up there, too.

I liked them both in their time. However, I’ve coincidentally been reading collections of the two strips lately and Calvin and Hobbes has held up much better. Bloom County now feels terribly dated, to me at least. Largely that’s because Breathed put a lot of current politics and pop culture into his strips. It was refreshing at the time but now just makes me feel old. Like when he makes a joke about Ed Meese. Huh?

When he stayed away from (then) current issues, events and people he is still very funny today.
