Robert Goulet dead at 73. What a huge voice he had.
But if I’d ever leave you,
It couldn’t be in autumn.
How I’d leave in autumn I never will know.
I’ve seen how you sparkle
When fall nips the air.
I know you in autumn
And I must be there.
Not Bob Goulet!
Well, I swann. I hate to hear that.
Very well. Begin the thawing of Jim Nabors.
I wasn’t old enough to know him in his classic roles (Camelot) - and I first came to know him in Naked Gun 2 1/2… And I’m ok with that. He was great in everything I’ve seen him in, including that episode of The Simpsons he guested on and those Emerald Nuts commercials (so much for that ad campaign, huh?).
Very sad news.
My first exposure to him was in an opera on Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood. So, I know he musta been quite an upstanding guy.
Elvis is shooting him in heaven now.
Clap. Clap. Clap.
My Robert Goulet story: I was an assistant-assistant-assistant-assistant stage manager for Camelot a couple of years ago when he was touring as King Arthur. I had very little contact with him, but the greatest thing about him was that he had a ‘handler.’ And not the type of person who handles the paparazzi; the type of person who handles wildlife. This guy would take Goulet by the shoulders and march him to where he was supposed to be. If he had an entrance, the handler would take the glass of wine out of his hand, shove him onto the stage, walk around to the wing where his exit would be, hand the wine back to him when he got off stage, and then march him to his next entrance.
This always surprised me, because Goulet never seemed like he needed to be steered everywhere. He was just as with-it as anyone else on the cast, and freakishly charming. I’m serious: the 20-something girls at my theatre were swooning over him, and he was freakin’ 70 years old!
My mom got to see him, Richard Burton, and Julie Andrews when Camelot premiered on Broadway. I’ve always envied that.
His most recent job that I thought was really cool- he provided the singing voice for Mikey in the Disney cartoon RECESS.
Thank god! Now he won’t be messing up my office during the afternoon low-energy periods!
Obviously, my thread was way after this one. Sorry about that.
Met him once. He was a surprisingly small fellow. Seemed like a nice gent, though.
I’ve had the biggest crush in him since I was four because of the Camelot cast album. Along with Han Solo, he was my earliest crush. I saw him play King Arthur in a touring production back in 1993, which made me very happy. I’m more upset by this news than I probably should be. Man, I’m having a lousy day.
I’ve had a soft spot in my heart for Robert Goulet since my sophomore year in high school about 30 years ago when a girl told me that I looked like him. I don’t, by any stretch of the imagination, but that compliment’s kept me going over many a rough patch.
[Will Farrell]Gouuuuuuuuulet![/Will Farrell]
Anybody else remember Gay Purree? Goulet provided the voice for one of the cats, the hero I think.
Robert Goulet, Robert Goulet, my god Robert Goulet!
Mom loved the Camelot soundtrack.
She saw in Chicago, in the 60s.
