Is there a point at which a cigar is too long/thick to be satisfying or practical? I’m not talking about cigars explicitly made to get into Guiness, I mean cigar meant to be comercially sold/consumed.
15 inches. Anything exceeding that-not satisfying.
Ambi-Is there a gauge at which cigars get too thick to be enjoyable?
No. As long as you can fit in your craw, it’s good.
I bought my Dad a foot long cigar when I was a kid. It was a gag. He smoked cigars. He kept it for years.
Size doesn’t matter.
So Sometimes a Really Big Cigar is just a Really Big Cigar?
So anything exceeding 15 inches is “not satisfying”. interesting choice of description of the problem.
So why is a 15 inch cigar satisfying and a 15.5" cigar not satisfying? Or is it only not satisfying for the first half-inch?
The Puros Indios Chief is the largest production cigar at 18 x 66 (66 being the ring gauge or diameter measured in 64ths of an inch). I have a couple of Puros Indios Grtan Victoria at 10 x 66 but these are “perfecto” cigars, tapered at both ends, so for me the smoking is easier than a 66 ring “parejo” or straight sided cigar such as the Chhief.
I poersonally do not care for larger ring gauges finding them uncomfortable in the mouth. Many, perhaps most of the major labels produce 60 ring gauge cigars today. 50 ring is the largest suitable to my preference.
While I prefer smaller cigars, I do smoke a fair amount of “giant” class cigars, generally 8-9" and around 50-52 ring.
Slightly off topic, but the real popular size right now is 6x60. That is 6" and 60 ring gauge.
Moved Cafe Society --> IMHO.
This this thread actually about cigars? Or “cigars”?
Thanks Frank! BTW, this is about the large things you smoke. (not about Presidential dildoes)
“I pledged myself to smoke but one cigar a day. I kept the cigar waiting until bedtime, then I had a luxurious time with it. But desire persecuted me every day and all day long. I found myself hunting for larger cigars…within the month my cigar had grown to such proportions I could have used it as a crutch.” – Mark Twain, discussing his attempt to cut back on his cigar consumption.
At a certain point I would think that it would be too tough to draw.
What point does that happen to you?
I’m not a smoker.
But in the past I have enjoyed normal-sized cigars on occasion and recall more than one that was rolled tight enough that the draw really took some effort. IMO adding length to a cigar would only increase the effort needed to draw on it.
Just ask this guy…
