So I’m a Philatelist (stamp collector) who specializes in Film topicals–anything to do with movies. Every year a Legend of Hollywood stamp comes out and I prepare by going to LA and buying a huge supply of postcards of that year’s subject (Marilyn, Hitchcock, etc.) for First-Day-of-Issue postmarks on said postcards.
The problem is that I’ve been slammed and have not been able to visit LA since they announced this year’s Legend (Cary Grant). There’s a six block stretch of Hollywood Boulevard that I always go to, since it’s stacked with bookstores, souvenir shops, etc. that sell celebrity postcards.
Would any Doper be willing to (1) buy as many Cary Grant postcards they can find at these stores, and (2) get them to me ASAP? Naturally, I’d reimburse for any costs incurred.
As for getting them to me, you can either mail them to me, but I would need them by next Friday (I live in No.Cal), since the USPS has a strict deadline by which you can obtain these postmarks,
or I will be in LA tomorrow night from 11pm to 7am (I have to stay overnight in LAX–long story), so if we can find somewhere mutually convenient to meet, then I’d be fine in meeting up with a Doper kind enough to go to this kind of trouble.
