Being an insomniac I tend to be up late and watch the TV channels that aren’t showing infomercials but when Carson Daly is on I usually tend to play around on the computer and tune him out. The times I actually watch him I just have to ask myself how he got a talk show. I think the infomercial hosts are more interesting and entertaining than him.
It’s actually painful to watch him. He steals bits from other talk show hosts. A lot of what he does looks like he’s trying to rip off Conan (and not even coming close). Whenever he interviews someone it always seems like the person he’s interviewing is getting annoyed with him and asking themselves how this guy got a talk show. I just saw him interview Jennifer Tilly and compared to him she seemed smart, funny and interesting. Her telling him one of his jokes really wasn’t funny at all made her look brilliant.
He is so unfunny it … well, it isn’t funny. Were there really no talented, entertaining people that could have been offered this job or is it just that it’s on so late the netwprk doesn’t think anyone is watching anyway so why find someone talented that some other network is going to steal away?
I don’t have any information on -how- he got his job, but totally agree with you: he’s terrible at it, and just grates on me whenever I’ve had the -mis-fortune- to tune in his show. Perhaps NBC keeps him onboard because his show comes on at 1:30 AM; that’s the sole reason I come up with for him still hosting that show!
He got his start at MTV, the land where teenagers rule all. 14-year-old girls love him because he’s dreamy. Since the mainstream networks have abandoned any demographic that was born before Michael Eisner took over Disney, they decided they had to have him.
I’m a long ways from being a teen and never was a girl, but cannot imagine that girls really find this guy hot- I always thought the deal with him was the same as with the trio of schlubs on Friends- girls like them because they’re on TV, not they’re on TV because girls like them. To me, he seems very average looking, he’s not smart at all, not funny, his interview questions and style are embarassing- I don’t get it, either.
I NEVER understood why people liked Carson so much. I think his humor is atrocious, and it’s just an embarrasment to watch him, every time I’ve seen him. I’m always groaning and stuff when I see him on TV.
I always figured, me and my social group are the exact opposite type of crowd that likes Carson. Because no one I know comes close to liking him in any way or fashion.
