Can anyone help me find this movie?

It is called eraserhead. On ebay there are too many bids to have a chance of winning…I can’t seem to find a vhs copy anywhere.

Its from 1976 I think, its really cool from what I remember. Or if anybody has a copy, could they dub it for me?

A short answer: No. I would love to help, but I guess you’re over in the US, and I don’t have recording facilities (Actually, not even a working VCR at the moment). I was lucky enough to tape it from TV about 2 years ago on Australia’s Ethnic/alternative TV station, SBS. If there’s any such station near where you are, hassle them to play it. It also very rarely turns up in arthouse cinemas here.

Ig"no help at all"uana.

amazon.co.uk have it for 5.99 ukp, but it will be on PAL format. Are US VCRs capable of converting from PAL? Here in the UK it is common to find PAL VCRs which will take NTSC.

Perhaps you can get it copied to NTSC commercially.

Unortunately, Eraserhead is out of print (OOP) in the US.

You’re best bet really would be to shell out on e-bay.
Make up your mind what you’re willing to pay.

Eventually you’ll get a copy. It didn’t look like used copies were going for more than $20.00, and they seemed to be plentiful.

Call around to video stores. You can probably rent one out of their “cult” section.

Okay, you asked how to make/get a fake body. You’re looking for some cash. Are you making a film? I have a little filmmaking tutrial on my page http://pw1.netcom.com/~heliboy/filmunderground.htm Click on “Tutorial”. It’s fairly basic and is more for making a “no-budget” film, so if that’s what you’re doing it may be of help.

I was just talking about “Eraserhead” this past weekend. I haven’t seen it since high school. Can someone please refresh my memory and give me a little detail about what it was about (shitty wording – oh, well, you know what I’m trying to say…)

I’ve seen Eraserhead in the cult sections of larger independent videostores (you’ll never find this at Lackluster Video). You could always rent it and dub your own copy (I never told you this). Failing that, you could go to one of those rare video suppliers like Video Search of Miami, or some of the companies that advertise in in the back pages of Filmfax magazine.

There was a very thorough analysis of the meaning of Eraserhead in the magazine Cinefantastique back when Lynch’s movie “Dune” came out back in 1984. It’s worth looking up.

As I’ve mentioned in another thread, Eraserhead is one of the components of my Truly Weird film series. If you show Eraserhead, Forbidden Zone, and Freaks on a single bill you will in all likelihood drive your guests screaming ut into the street. Very little blood or gore or sex, but an unbelievably high weirdness content.

The Forbidden Zone is available through Revok.

Great films all, CalMeacham; but what about Roger Corman’s classic A Bucket of Blood? A definate “must-see”, and worthy addition to your lineup.

I was just over at Amazon.com at this address http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/notification-item-request-done/002-5552695-1914431 (I hope it works).

I looked up Eraserhead on DVD. They said the it has not yet been released on DVD, but if you elect to be notified by e-mail when it is available, you’ll also be voting for its release. They said they’d tally the requests and notify the studio.

So, Dopers… if you want Eraserhead on DVD, try voting for it! (And while you’re at it, I’d sure like to get the classic (first?) air-disaster movie The High and the Mighty on DVD… as long as you’re voting…)

How much would you pay for it? Our local US video store might have a copy in its dusty archives.

Cal, you picked two of my picks for “weirdest films I’ve ever seen.” But Freaks didn’t make my final cut; I’ve always put El Topo alongside Eraserhead and Forbidden Zone. I’ve got all three on one videotape for whenever I feel like spending six hours on a different mental plane.

The Forbidden Zone (my secondary e-mail is FrenchyHercules@hotmail.com - no shit) and Freaks are both faves.

Truthfully though, Eraserhead just gave me a bad headache both times I tried to watch it.

You’re (sort of) in luck.

It looks like http://www.facets.org has it available for rental, but not for sale.
Dunno what format its in. I think these guys rent VHS, DVD, Laserdisk, and 16mm.

FWIW, if you want to import the UK version, there are boxes and even VCRs that are capable of converting PAL signals to NTSC. I’ve used the boxes to play UK video game systems, but they would be quite capable of taking any output. Check import gaming stores online as well.

If you get it from the Uk, you can get it converted. I got a video from the UK (not realizing there were different formats) and then called around local video places and found someone who could convert it. Cost me $20 to convert.

If he’s going to have to spend $$ for overseas shipping and then PAL to VHS conversion, he might as well just pick up a used VHS copy on E-bay - he’ll spend less.

If you live in a large city you’ll find tons of electronic stores that do PAL to NTSC conversions, especially in immigrant neighborhoods.

You can check out the trailer in either english or japanese here:
