Can anyone recommend a good writer's forum/msg board?

Looking for a forum where writer’s ask/give advice on writing fiction, preferably well-populated so I get my answer in seconds. Anyone?

I don’t know anything that’ll give you an answer in seconds, but some good forums include:

Sff.net (for science fiction) http://webnews.sff.net
Speculations (http://www.speculations.com)
Critters (an online writing group): http://www.critters.org

You can also look at Usenet newsgroups like misc.writing. Google lets you post to them.

Does anyone know what this website might be (story’s from Jan 2002 so it mihgt not exist anymore)? The story doesn’t include a link, strangely. Maybe it’s not supposed to be well-known but I for one would like to read it.

Quote from http://abcasiapacific.com/englishbites/stories/s450733.htm:

CECILIA DART-THORNTON: And I just kept writing and writing and writing, never knowing if anyone would ever read it, but not really caring because it was so fun. Then I found out about a website which is for would-be authors and people can contribute little pieces of their writing and everyone critiques each other’s work and tries to help each other improve.

MICK BUNWORTH: The website editors were so impressed with her work, they put her in touch with a New York-based agent. Even with an imagination as vivid as hers, Cecilia could not have envisaged that her agent was about to start negotiating with Time-Warner subsidiary, Warner Books.

I second critters.org. A cow-orker is also a published author, and uses that site. IIRC, it’s slanted to Science Fiction, Fantasy, and “Horror”.

It’s an excellent place for advice. Catch is, the advice comes in the form of reviews of your stories, which you place online (not publish, read critters FAQ) for reviewers. And you have to review, too.

Do check it out.
