Are you kidding?
OK genius, what’s the answer?
Here’s a hint, Mad Hatter:
Both the 5 wolves and the 3 sheep are in two separate groups each (by group I mean the particular animals of the same species are adjacent to each other)
And yes, I’m listed in the “Hall of Fame” (there are 14500 members so far, if that makes you feel any better  )
You might get it by guessing, since there are ONLY about 2000 possible combinations. But even at one combination per second (ha) that’s over half an hour. If you assume some sort of maximal clickability it would probably be several hours. There’s probably an algorithm to do it, but it’ll still be slow.
Damnit!!! Thank God I will not have to be here all night. I am sure there are more of you who are stuck on this like I have been and you want an answer. Since Archive Guy was first but will not give the answer, I will give it to you all. Here it is.
Think of the squares as a grid. At top from left to right are sqaures 1-5. Going down from the top are squares A-E.
Put a wolf in squares A2,A3,B2,B5 and C5
Put a sheep in D1, E1, E4
YOU SUNK MY BATTLESHIP.
Now I can get back to browsing the board again…
PS dont ever post this kinda thing again without some kind of disclaimer. I could have been stuck on this all night.
I find it amusing that several of the people who finished the puzzle today are 'Dopers.
And Nenno… I got it basically the same way, 'cept upside-down. Call me odd, huh?
Didn’t want to be a newbie and a spoiler. I got yours Bear_Nenno, except mirror-image-like.
I got the mirror image of Bear_Nenno’s… and it didn’t take me half an hour… more like 3 minutes.
