Can anyone tell me about ODBC drivers?

I am trying to find out if these are installed automatically with office (2000 professional) or if this is something that I have to do myself. The add/remove area is not of much help (and pretty counterintuitive), and the Access help is rather cryptic and vague (it claims both that the drivers install with access and that there should be an entry in my control panel (there is not one)).

The real problem is that I am using and application that should be able to export to Access, but I am getting an error message that seems to be indicating that I do not have ODBC installed. I am just trying to find a way to verify this (WIN 2K professional OS if this helps).

Thanks Guys!

Just go to the Windows Control Panel and you should see an option called ODBC data sources. Open it to find a list of ODBC drivers that are installed. If you do not see the one you need on the list then choose the Add option to install it. It really is that easy.

This helps a little, however, I do not have an ODBC related icon in my control panel at all. I have looked at the Add/Remove programs area and am just not able to tell if this is part of Office at all, or if this is a Windows component.

Sigh.

On my Windows 2000, at least, it’s “Data Sources (ODBC)” on the Control Panel, but it’s within Administrative Tools. Go figure.

I know this well, because I’ve been fighting with my blasted ODBC drivers for a couple of weeks now- Access just isn’t happy with the way I link my tables.

Very frustrating- but finally fixed, I hope.

Good luck to you.

Smaft this is the info that I was looking for and has me quite further along in solving my problem. Thanks!
