Tomndebb warns mikecurtis for an infraction.
Problem is that his warning was the third piece of moderation in the thread, with two prior mods giving only a note. Also mikecurtis accepted the note and admitted wrongdoing.
I’m not complaining because I have no dog in the fight, but how does this work in general. Can another mod overrule a prior decision of a previous mod and upgrade a punishment?
Notes do not get recorded on the software, so Mods do not always see that action has occurred. I have begun adding a comment to Modded posts to avoid that issue.
I will reverse the Warning, but it may take me a couple of hours to get to it.
Very well and thanks for the response. I guess my question was more general. Can mods upgrade a prior punishment if it is warranted. Say a “stand in” mod was in your thread and you thought a note inadequate. Do you have the power to upgrade it, or is that something that requires general approval.

Speaking just for myself, if I see that another forum mod has already modded a post in my forum, I will let that stand, even if I would have modded it differently. If I simul-mod a post, or even if I notice after the fact that another mod has already modded it, I will edit it out and let the first call on the field stand.
It is very rare for a mod to moderate a post in a forum they don’t mod (although they have the power to), except for non-judgement calls like spam. I’ve sometimes intervened to prevent a trainwreck in progress when the forum mods are off line, but I notify them in case they want to handle it differently when they have the opportunity. We generally defer to the judgement of forum mods.
In the case of serious difference of opinion about how to moderate a post, the question will be raised in the mod loop. There are some cases in which a penalty has been upgraded or downgraded after discussion. It’s wrong to think about this in terms of the “power to” do something; we generally work by consensus.
Double jeopardy as a defense against a warning? What’s next? Having legal representation and court dates to appeal warnings?
Take your warning like a man, and hopefully learn something.

It seems that the number of whining posters complaining about moderation and warnings has ramped up significantly over the past several years. Maybe it’s generational or something like that. The same people that will post about their tough guy image of sticking it to the “man”, their boss, or Trump. Will come to the ATMB and whine like babies over the interpretation of an adjective or adverb and how it was misinterpreted. It’s just sad to see.

“Pled” is a very distant 2nd choice. “Pleaded” is much preferred.

In any event, like Col, rarely would I override another mod’s call on an issue. On rare occasion I’ve raised in with the other GD and PE moderators - we’ve traditionally had a separate loop just for us - to make sure we clarify and I believe once based on that we upgrade a note to a warning. It’s more common to see something downgraded through that sort of discussion.
As for other mods the GD and PE? I can’t recall a time where someone intervened without a direct request from one of us due to some developing situation where we were offline or out of position. Moderators, while fully capable of moderating any of the fora, generally stay in their lane.
:dubious: both of my warnings came from one mod after another mod had given me a note for the same infraction…
in fact in one case Bone gave me a note, I agreed I was over the line, and then a few posts later JC came in and gave me a warning.
If the warning in the OP is being rescinded due to “double jeopardy” what about mine?
