Can I Block Texts From Someone?

I keep getting junk texts from someone named 36-794. Or 36 794. Oy maybe 36794. They show up as different configurations on my iPhone (iOS 17.6.1) and my MacBook Air (Sonoma 14.5). On the phone, I can “Report Junk and Delete,” but there doesn’t appear be any way to scrub them off the Messages app on my MacBook.

To be clear, while deleting them from my MacBook would definitely be nice, what I really want these computers to do is block them from showing up in the first place.

HELP!

You can block texts from anyone in your address book. I’m not sure this will work, but you could try adding this number to an entry as “spam” and trying to block it. But, if it’s a short code, it might not work.

Thanks. I’ve done as you suggested, and while it didn’t delete preexisting messages, it did allow me to hide alerts. We’ll see what happens.

To just delete the messages, right-click on the senders avatar/icon in the Messages sidebar, then click “Delete…” which will delete the messages from all of your devices.

Is there a way to report it as spam, so that any further messages automatically get blocked or silently diverted to a spam folder? I’m not familiar with Apple iDevices.

Have you tried texting STOP?

If you get a text from someone who is not already in your contacts, there can be a “Report Junk” link under the text. If that link appears or not I’m pretty sure is up to your carrier. So you just tap the “Report Junk” link.

Then you can tap the number’s profile picture at the top of the screen, tap the “info” button, and then tap “Block Caller.”

If it’s truly spam (as opposed to something you accidentally signed up for) this is the worst thing you could do. Not only are they not going to stop but you’ve just confirmed that you have a valid # & look at what they send; therefore, they’re gonna send you more & if they catch you at the wrong time (when you’re half awake) you might just give them info you don’t really want to.
